Where is the Best Live Music Venue in Austin, Texas?
It had been a while since I had eaten at Artz, but I have been twice in the last month or so and the ribs were wonderful. Tender, moist & very tasty. On my second recent visit, I had to order a full raack, so I had guaranteed leftovers to take home. Unlike some other reviewers, I like the BBQ sauce a lot. Even tho’ the ribs taste fine without sauce, I gotta have it. It has kind of ruined me for other barbecue joints. It’s a tangy tomato/vinegar style sauce and to say it is a mix of ketchup and mustard is just dumb.The sides, beans, coleslaw, & tater salad were all very good. The potato salad is a different than I remember, but tastier.(I used to think it was bland.) I have always liked the coleslaw, which is NOT swimming in dressing as too many slaws are.I do go along with the “Insider Tip”…go when the music is playing. The musicians I’ve seen there are usually pretty damn good.
We went on a Friday night and the food was good. It took less than 30 minutes to get our food, and only a few minutes to get drinks. The patio was too cold for us so we ate inside, but the cigarette smoke was thick. Warning to non-smokers, go only when it is warm and you can be outside in the fresh air.
Somebody said, “Bring back Liberty Lunch!” Somebody else said, “Bring back Bates Motel!” Still a third person shouted, “I’m gay! And it’s okay!” Well, somebody listened, to the first two, and that somebody, well, that somebody was actually two people: Randall and Donya. And they have total punk-rock credibility for transforming and empty cinder-block space into the best small club to see hard rock in Austin. The Continental Club is the BEST club in Austin. If you never made it to the Armadillo World Headquarters, check out Toni’s Hippie Hour on Tuesday nights. The Continental is the ONLY place in town where you can still get a feel for what the Armadillo World Headquarters was like–this is the magic of Toni’s Hippie Hour. The Continental Clus is the BEST club in town, that’s all there is to it. From Tuesday’s with Toni to the Blues Specialists on Fridays to the ELVIS Shows, Buck Owens Bash, and so on and so on, you can’t go wrong. The folks there are great, the atmosphere is great, and the crowds are great. Peanuts at happy hour. And don’t forget all the Classic Cars you’ll see!!!
