Where is the Best Live Music Venue in Austin, Texas?
We were on our way to a lavendar farm to pick lavendar and had always wanted to try the Nutty Brown Cafe. We stopped and were so pleasantly surprised! We sat outside, and the shade from the large trees kept us cool in the TX June heat. The service was attentive, and the food was yummy! Great experience. This was on a weekend during the day and there was no wait. Good experience, we recommend.Pros + great outdoor seating, good service, good food
One of the things I was excited to partake in when I moved to Austin was good TEXAS Two-Stepping! Unfortunatly when I got here i learned that most of the old cowboy bars were long replaced in Austin by trendy college hot spots—–also fun, but not the same. Donns is a really great mix—- there is the country music (or piano on some nights) a nice little dancefloor, and there is still a good mix of ages. Not all college kids, not all old-folks—a little of both! The only drawback is there is usually a covercharge —generally a deal breaker for me (if i’m gonna spend $$ at the bar, why should i spend it at the door!) but I actually broke out the wallet on a few occations because Donns’ is worth it.Pros + Texas Two-stepping, FUN place, not Pretentious at all.Cons – Cover charge, Younger boys dont seem to know how to dance.
I think Emo’s gets a bad rep because the bartenders aren’t service-industry sycophants and the crowd gets a little sceneterish. But hey, it’s pretty much the vena cava of rock n’ roll in this town, especially since the Black Cat’s in cinders. It’s the only place in town where you can see Swearing @ Motorists one night and Propagandhi the next. I’ve seen some of my best shows there. Jason the sound guy rocks, and the door guys (and grrrls) are always staid, up-standing chaps and chapettes.Pros + variety of music, good standby date, decent crowdCons – long lines
Came down for the Los Lonely Boys Concert, which by the way was fantastic and Stubb’s outdoor concert stage in the back was a reat place to watch and listen to music, A+. Now the food – ribs and chicken were OK, but the sides and appetizers needed a lot more taste than what was presented to us. The portions are difinitely small, surprisingly coming from a Texas B-B-Q joint and especially for the price your paying for them. Come here for the music, but you can find better elsewhere if you have the time. Pros + Music VenueCons – Appetizers and Sides need flavor
