Where is the Best Late-Night Dining in Los Angeles, California?
Getting bored, waiting 5 minutes to be seated, I sat down and waited, watching close-captioned Bruce Lee, trying to flag someone for another 10 minutes. Finally, a rude waitress came over and took my order. Halfway through, she left. I had to chase her down and tell her I also wanted Thai ice coffee. Sheesh!The food is OK — lacks a little something. I mean, sure, you can chop up basil, lemongrass and garlic and throw it over rice, but that doesn’t make it good. Not spicy enuff.The rice is another weak point. It’s Spanish rice or something. It isn’t sticky, and has no flavor.15 minutes of waiting to pay my bill. I had to get up again and get the waitress, sitting in the kitchen talking to one of the cooks — she’d been sitting there the whole time. Ugh! I first came here for dinner with some friends a couple of months ago. I was kind of skeptical about the place, given the hodge podge nature of the menu. However, we were already in the area and my friends insisted.As it turns out, I was pleasantly surprised what turned out to be a solid meal. We started off by sharing the FRIED YUCCA. I thought that these would be more earth shattering than they were, but instead, they were more like extra starchy french fries. They aren’t a bad munchie-type of item, but it’s not something that I’d say is a must-order.For my entree, I ordered the SHRIMP STROGANOFF which consisted of sautéed shrimps with heart of palm, and onions in a creamy pink (tomato-based) sauce. Unlike the traditional Russian beef stroganoff, which calls for the use of sour cream, the Brazilian variation uses heavy cream. The dish came with either white rice, french fries, or plantains. I opted for rice, as apparently, that’s how the Brazilians typically eat it.Turned out to be a

I cannot explain how excited I am to live in a city where you can get a perfectly aged and cooked steak 24 hours a day. PLUS if you eat there they have a free shuttle to all the Downtown entertainment venues, pick up and drop off. And its a good place for star sightings.Donald Sutherland sighting aside, I do want to balance my review with both pros and cons.Its a steakhouse. Its old school. You don’t get hurried out in favor of seating another party. Granted its not usually packed. I never found the wait staff absent or non-attentive, just discreet and unobtruscive. It’s one of those places where they seat you, take your order, ask if you need anything else, bring that if it applies, and leave you alone with your date, family, business partner, etc. If you should need service, it isn’t hard to flag down someone who can get your waiter to you, or a busboy to refill your water.Its pricey.
