Where is the Best Korean Food in Los Angeles, California?
Kaya Sushi has by far the best sushi in L.A. for the price. While their prices are more expensive than some sushi places, one bite into their fish and you’ll taste nobu quality sushi at a fraction of the price. Even if someone in your party doesn’t like sushi, their tempura is the best I’ve ever had – light, flaky, and delicious. It does get crowded sometimes, but there have been random nights where I’ve been seated right away. Look for the two bald servers – they’re the best ones. I’ve noticed they don’t have a busboy or a hostess, so it does get a bit hectic at times. They don’t have many big tables however – this place is more of a date spot or for a small group of cloes friends.If you become a regular and get to know the chefs, servers, and bosses, you can come by yourself, sit at the sushi bar, and have a great time. My wife and I took my parents, new to Korean BBQ, to this place without knowing a thing about it. We were expecting more or less standard stuff…smoky surroundings and very average decor. We were very pleasantly surprised. It is located in Chapman Plaza, which is a very nice little oasis in the middle of Korea Town. Far from the strip malls and non-descript architecture, Chapman Plaza is unique, with several restaurants facing inward into a charming cobblestone courtyard (w/ validated valet parking). The restaurant itself has both indoor and patio seating. The interior is high-ceilinged, with large tables well spread in hip setting (dark woods, leather, glass walls and bamboo). The staff immediately made us feel welcome, and took time to describe everything to my parents. They checked in with us frequently and were very nice without being obtrusive. My fiance and I went in on a Saturday night and were pretty surprised at how much we liked it. The decor was beautiful and we love the layout of the restaurant. The food seem pretty authentic (I’ve had Korean food before but I’m no expert) and the menu wasn’t intimidating at all for someone new to Korean food. We ordered the kal bi and bool go gee and it was super flavorful and delicious. I didn’t love cooking at the table myself but I guess it’s part of the experience. Overall I would go back and would recommend it to anyone who wants to try something new and different. This is absolutely the only Korean BBQ place I go to. There was a time I decided to be more open minded and try the many other BBQ places nearby, let me tell you, it was a bad idea. The only place where you put good food and good price together. I have been coming here for years and years. They have raised their prices but it is still the best deal and most importantly the best taste. I like all the side dishes and they give plentiful. My favorite is the bean sprouts and the black beans. Remember to end your meal with their famous cold noodle soup.
