Where is the Best Italian Food in Minneapolis, Minnesota?
Yesterday was my first trip to Biaggi’s and I truly enjoyed it! Sunday evening, so it wasn’t extremely packed. We were greeted by about 7 greeters and taken to a cozy little booth right away. Our server came over right away and got us started by mixing their delicious herb infused olive oil with fresh cracked pepper and Parmesan cheese for dipping our bread. She seemed to rush through the specials of the day and completely lost me in the middle, I generally tend to forgive servers who have to say those lines so many times a day… especially since it was on paper right in front of us. We ordered the Carpaccio to start and it was delicious, though I thought it could have had a bit less cracked pepper on it being that you have your own pepper cracker at the table. I personally am not a huge fan of pepper in great quantity, you may be different. I ordered the Shrimp Oreganata, which is lightly breaded shrimp with pasta in a red sauce. Let’s slow down a little folk’s! Yes, this the best home Italian rest. in Burnsville. But Buca’s or Mac Grill have not lost their appeal; let’s just leave it at that. The Pizza is top notch; GREAT FLAVOR, good price. The food is very satisfying; but the sauce lacked flavor and was runny(I only ate in once, so far). I don’t know if the bread is authentic, but it is pretty good. During the weekend the place is almost full; so you’ll want to call ahead a little. I get the impression a lot of the locals are regulars; good friends fun. The atmosphere is really why you go here. My wife and I moved to the North End in October of 2007. I did not know about Mama’s at that point. I drove by it several times and always saw the “reopening soon” sign and just thought sadly that it was like the other such signs you see along Rice that you assume have been there and will continue to be there gathering dust for years to come. Not this place! I never visited it before they had their damage, but everything I’m reading here still appies to it today. Great food, great service, great character! A true neighborhood type of place and I’m glad it’s so near my house. My vegetarian wife and I can go eat there for just over $20 and be absolutely stuffed and happy when we leave. It reminds me of the family run Mexican places in Denver that my family always frequented – the kind of place that knows that good service and remembering your customers is what it is ALL about. If your willing to spend a little extra to get the best Ravello is the place to go. The food served here is creative and cutting edge. I’ve had the fish specials and the Chicken Ravello and have not had a better meal in the Twin Cities. For all the reviewers complaining about the prices…since moving to Minneapolis, I have never experienced so many people and companies that are SO cheap in my life. When you want fresh food, prepared well, in season, and local, with good service, you pay for it. When you are in a real city like Boston, San Francisco, Chicago, or Los Angeles, you pay for good food and service, and this place is cheap compared to restaurants in those cities, so go back to Applebee’s and stop complaining, you cheap asses!
