Ring Mountain Cremery Cafe is a wonderful place to hang out with friends and family. They have live music weekly and lots of seating. They have a cozy little corner with squishy chairs and boardgames for people who want to be up close and personal with the musicians, and they have booths tucked back on the other side of the room for those who would rather converse and see the music from a distance. They also have some seating outdoors.Ring Mountain has TONS of ice cream and gelato flavors, all of which you can taste if you want to! The service is phenomenal, as well. They have a top notch team of workers who are friendly, cheerful, excited, and helpful. Even though it’s quite busy at times, the line runs smoothly and the workers are extremely patient if you need to ask questions and taste flavors before making your decision. A group of 14 of us dined here on a Tuesday evening (12 June). Since my wife and I were at one end of a long table, I have no idea what the judgment may have been of the other end. For us, though, the entrees were excellent (gnocchi ai quattro formaggi) and transcendent (risotto with chicken and asparagus in a saffron broth). The latter was stunningly good; it had to be due to the broth itself. The first course calamari Genovese (not fried) was, alas, overdone and consequently tough. Another diner mentioned tough calamari in her cioppino. They should know the rule for cooking squid: 45 seconds or 45 minutes. A contorno – a “side” of broccoli rapini – could’ve been tenderer. A molten chocolate cake – increasingly common on menus, to which, as an unapologetic chocoholic, I have no objection at all – was very nice. Broder’s delivers the perfect recipe for relaxation and flavor, but should consider the customer’s experience a little bit more.The ever circulating menu – though still wonderful – is recirculating upon itself a lot and it seems needs some new inspiration from the outside. I couldn’t believe this place was in Minnesota! When my group arrived we were not only greeted by the owner but two other employees welcomed us. I never had that happen. First of all the decor is not only historic by utterly charming. The place was buzzing in a nice way and it was a Monday! We had a drink at the bar at which the bartender was friendly and professional! He really knew his wines and liquors. He suggested the Marktini invented by the owner. If you like Cosmo’s you’ll LOVE this drink! Everyone we talked to at the bar was either a local or a regular. They couldn’t stop raving of this little find. We finally sat down and our server Angus was also professional and attentive. He was from Scotland and actually was one of the Queen’s servers at one time. I loved his accent. I think my husband was jealous. The food was perfect. I had the mussel appetizer and the Manhattan Fillet. For $23 it was a steal. You would pay double that downtown for JUST the steak. Our regular group of six gathered here on Friday 3 November. I call this review “surprising” – for me at least – because the first three times I had eaten at Macaroni Grill (not this one), the pasta preparations were, let’s say, passable. This time the provender was quite good. Surprise! None of my previous visits, including this one, was my choice. I had the impression that this might be a place for people who like unadventurous Italian food but whose principal purpose was getting stuffed. I now must modify this probably snobbish view. My memory has already faded about other people’s choices, even my own wife’s, so I’ll address only mine. The fried calamari appetizer was fine, on a par with other such omnipresent squid preparations, but having had a number of these offerings in and around the Twin Cities, I’ve now concluded that restaurants in and around Seattle where I lived for some time do it better. There’s a tendency around here for the batter to overwhelm the squid. I ask:
