Where is the Best Italian Food in Charlotte, North Carolina?
After traveling around Charlotte a good 2 – 3 hours we found Ciro’s by mistake when we had decided to go back to the hotel were the convention was being held. Upon entry the place was packed and I thought that we would be there for at least an hour before being seated. To our surprise the Owner (originally from Italy) came over and introduced himself and ask if we had been waiting long (This was after about 5 minutes). During our chat, the attendant called our name and seated us (approx. 10 minutes). The atmosphere was excellent, the owner even played several Italian selections on his accordion. Very romantic. My wife and I had an excellent dinner and the service was great. I would highly recommend this restaurant to any visitor at University Place in Charlotte. And for any racing fan there is a unique story between the owner and famed racing personality/former driver Benny Parsons. So drop by and read the article on the right hand wall as soon as you enter. Pros + excell
I had eaten here about 5 years ago and had a great time with friends and was happy to see it is still in business. It’s a great casual place to eat where they don’t try to glam up the food and they don’t over play the italian decor like most italian restaurants. It’s just good basic food and they leave you to enjoy yourself with out being too fussy. It feels more like a ‘real’ italian restaurant where food it main theme, but as stated before basic food, not glammed up.Pros + casual, Good food
We went on a late balmy night week night. They were still happy to seat us outside – in a section that had already closed for the night. It was late for a weeknight, maybe 10pm or so , and yet they didn’t seem to mind at all that were there so late. The veal saltimbocca and veal marsala were fabulous. I’d give it 5 starts exceot for the very slow service. We thought they were out hunting down a calf! But luckily the atmosphere and food was worth waiting. Pros + Great vealCons – a little high priced for what you get and a little snobbish
I probably should have stuck to my server’s advice, but none-the-less, the ravioli stuffed with a veal/cheese blend accompanied with the house salad wasn’t extrodinary, yet wasn’t bad. She explained it wasn’t one of the most popular dishes, but I had my mind set – oh well. Great wine selection, though. As far as the service and the overall experience, I would definately go back. Only this time I’ll heed her advice like I did on the wine selection (tasty tuscan Rosso).Pros + Service, Good for small groups, Fresh foodCons – Not terribly intimate
Our party of three all had Italian. Everything was excellent, from the service to best Italian food with Sinatra in background to a quite ambience. Best we’ve had since moving to Charlotte area from NY. Also enjoyed a very good white wine, Avondale (S. Africa) which was recomended by our server, Lisa. We’ll be back!!Hey Frankies -Wonder where can we buy that wine?
