Where is the Best Italian Food in Boulder, Colorado?
The reviews on here give you a picture of the wide range of experiences at this restaurant: it can be great, or it can be awful.At best, the food is tasty and innovative, happy hour is cheap, ambience is charming, and service is slow but adequate.At worst, service is abysmal, food cold or completely undistinguished, waitstaff incompetent/poorly trained, and you will receive someone else’s food, or your food will show up at someone else’s table.We’ve eaten here 4 times over the past few years; the last visit was so bad that we will never go back. $10 for angel hair pasta with an unimaginative tomato sauce, served nearly cold; drinks that showed up 30 minutes late, and 15 minutes after we finished dinner; bread that never appeared; waitstaff standing around all over the place, but apparently unable to communicate customers’ requests to each other.
The Med has always been a decent choice based on food alone. Their happy hour menu and of course the tapas are a sure-fire way to start your evening in Boulder. Be prepared to push through a crowd just to get the hostess to acknowledge you – no matter what time of day you visit. Mistakes have always been promptly remedied, prices are average for Boulder – outdoor patio area is beautiful and the only place to sit in the summer. We went to The Kitchen after 5280 made it seem like Colorado’s French Laundry. We were all pretty excited but the chaos ensued the second after we walked in the door. There is no discernible waiting area when you enter. You just kind of stand there until the hostess decides to stop talking to her emo friends sitting at the bar. We literally stood there for 3 minutes as she gabbed away. We finally got sat and literally waited 15 minutes before we were approached by anyone. The waitress did not offer an apology as asked us for a drink order as if we were bothering her. The drinks took 5 minutes and she forgot to even order my wife’s martini so another server had to pick up her slack. 10 minutes later we finally got an appetizer order in – the fava bean bruschetta and the duck confit. The bruschetta was bland and the confit was good but boring. I am not sure of the quality of everyone else’s food but I ordered the ribeye and it was incredibly overcooked. The rest of the night w
My wife and I have been dining at Carelli’s of Boulder for about the last six years, we discovered this small family owned restaraunt after relocating to Boulder. The staff is excellent and there is not a touch of “snootiness” that is typical of other restaraunts of this caliber. The location humble from the outside but an inviting patio leads to a remarkable interior that has two fireplacves which create an ambience that is unparalleled. Take a loved one here and I guarantee the staff will not let you down. I typically order the steak pizzaiola and my wife orders the shrimp scampi everytime! Definetely two thumbs up!
I really had a good time the food was really good and the atmosphere was even better.they had a live jazz band (very good). The best thing was the service. We had a server that was both friendly and helpful.he made me feel like I was a local. I think his name was “Mike” or “Michael”. Anyway, my kids just loved him and he made us laugh. It is a place I am going to recommend to all my friends who visit Boulder and plan to come back again and again when I visit next.
