A couple of weeks ago (April 2006) my wife and I received a gift card from Buca di Beppo. This was actually the first time we had heard of it! So, when time permitted, we decided to give it a shot. We went there on a Wednesday evening before 5:30 PM. The parking lot was mostly empty and we easily found a fine parking place. The front of the restaurant had advertisement cards for beer and wine and also an Italian bakery. The beer and wine was evident, but no sign of a bakery. The entrance area was nicely decorated, but passing through the kitchen area on the way to our table was a new experience for us. Seating was comfortable in a room simply covered in decorations. Buca di Beppo is a ala-carte restaurant, i.e., you order all your meal choices separately. Prices seemed a little high until we got our briefing from the server. I go to the olive garden about once a month just for the salad! i find everything else on their menu way overpriced and the portions are NEVER the same, espeically the desserts. The kids menu is okay I wish they would add some more things to it my kids are sick of mac n’ cheese every time we go here!

I am using Capo’s downtown location to review the Bernalillo restaurant because Yahoo! Local doesn’t have it listed.

My first visit to Mario’s my girlfriend and I ordered the vegetarian pizza. I’ve had quite a few veggie pizzas, but this one had something that made it different – breaded eggplant. Everytime I got a bite of the eggplant I thought I’d died and gone to heaven – it was that good. We both ordered a side salad and were both disappointed in the house italian dressing (tasted like bottled dressing.) Another visit, I tried the eggplant parm – just as delicious as it hinted at being when we discovered it on the pizza. My girlfriend tried the veggie sandwich which she found sadly lacking. It was nothing more than fried onions, green peppers and olives — TONS of olives. When we complained to the waitress, the chef/owner promptly came over and offered to make whatever vegetarian dish she wantend. Good way to get our repeat business.Pros + quick service, good bargainCons – lousy dressings, crowded lunches
