Where is the Best Impromptu Date Spot in New York, New York?

This is a great ‘brasserie’ like place, though its italian themed, in lower east side right around THOR and the rest of the hotspots here. Living and working in Chelsea i get lazy to travel down here but this was worth it. Atmosphere is cozy, feels a bit Pastis, with wood tables close together etc. Never had dinner there but lunch was great, i am told paninis are specialty and we tried a couple. Butternut squash was great too, arugula salad a bit dry to be honest needed more dressing. The breakfast panini with eggs and ham was very boring, i would not recommend picking from the Brunch menu, go to the regular panini list. And it was quite annoying to have so much italian in the menu. I was with two friends – one is French the other is a Spaniard, and we had to ask the waiter so many times ‘what does this mean’? My friend, who is vegetarian, ordred something with ham as a result. All in all a great experience and i would go back. Mimosa by the way was giant, and it looked quite

I went here with my girlfriends last night for happy hour and their Sunset dinner. The wine we had was fantastic. Great body and flavor. The Happy Hour special is buy one get one free of any drink. The catch is its buy one get one free PER PERSON. You can’t just order two drinks and call it a day each person has to have two drinks. Which would be fine, except that when we were ready to sit down for dinner the “blonde bomb” told us that we could not bring our drinks to our table they were to be consumed at the BAR ONLY. When we inquired why we couldn’t finish our drinks at the table she informed us, “we are already doing a really nice thing here for you.” A roll of my eyes and a couple gulps of my wine and we were able to be seated. The rest of the staff was incredibly nice. We didn’t have any problems and no one chased us out of the restaurant claiming we did not tip well. We went on a Thursday night at 5:30 and the restaurant was not crowded at all and we had no problems getting se

This was the first of numerous Latin cuisine places we visited on a recent trip to NYC. Nice enough inside, but some soap opera was playing on the flat screen that early evening, rather than SoAm futbol, or something. The Ceviche Pescado was terrific, but VERY limey. Still, we preferred it over the Mezcla. Followed by what is probably the best piece of Snapper I’ve ever had (We live on the florida East Coast, and get a lot), firm, still moist, with a slightly sweet, caramelized topcoat. Really, really well-executed. Service was fine, and attentive enough, although the place was only half-full at 5:30 on a Thursday. We left wishing we had a few places like this close to our home. Try it.

My boyfriend and I went to The Place on a snowy night (last Monday) and the service was great. We were promptly seated and Greg, or Craig provided excellent service. My Bf ordered the steak and he loved it. I had the salmon which was perfectly seasoned. What I liked the most was the fireplace, the ambiance, the wine…overall it’s a great place to dine with a significant other Pros + Great ambiance

i just finished my second dining experience at dumont with mixed feelings. my server suggested a great local wine, a great first course (white asparagus salad with hard-boiled eggs and truffle dressing…delicious!), and after i asked if he’d tried the wild striped bass on special he said no but recommended it anyway. the bass was to be served with leeks, wild mushrooms, and fingerling potatoes (not cheap, by the way). upon arrival, no potatoes. so i asked if they were still available and he said yes and that he would check with the kitchen. he returned 10 minutes later to ask if i wanted another glass of wine and didn’t mention the potatoes. when i asked again, he seemed flustered and told me that he’d passed on the information to the kitchen, then asked me if i still wanted them, but before i could respond he took my unfinished plate and left. in the end i received a free creme brulee (which was ok). i wonder what happened to the mysterious fingerling potatoes. i’m not even that upse
