Where is the Best Ice Cream in Portland, Oregon?
This is definately not a 32 flavors type place with a ton of flavors, but they still have a really good selection of high quality, great tasting desserts. They usually have only a few vegan soy soft-serve flavors to choose from, but they rotate what flavors they carry. You can also get milk (& soy) shakes, sundaes, and cookies. Scooters is very vegan friendly– they label their toppings and will glady answer your questions. The prices are not cheap, but moderately priced (example $4 for a milk shake) and the portions are pretty large. Also a great thing about Scooters is the atmosphere, very laid back, kid-friendly. There is interesting local art and you can hang out inside and listen to music. You can also chill outside on Belmont. The neighborhood is a really great scene with many other shops, bars, and places to eat.Pros + Tastes Great, Vegan/Organic, Laid back scene
I have been to Tutto Bene on many occasions. I work in the mall and go there almost everday for coffee and gelato. They use Lavazza coffee stright from Italy and has to be the best espresso I’ve ever had. The gelato is all made in the store and is always beautifully presented (although the other day there was a half of an actual pineapple on the pineapple sorbet which looked silly). The gelato and sorbet are hands down the best in Oregon and they are frequently switching up the flavors and making something new while keeping some of the originals in the rotation. The staff is fantastic. They are always eager to help and are available to answer any questions you may have about the food (i.e. “What makes gelato different than ice cream?”). The cafe does get VERY busy at times and the food takes a little longer to get out, but that is to be expected and the staff always seems to be going as fast as they can while keeping up their amazing service. They have been making some changes which I
I hosted my husband’s birthday party at Sweet Basil recently. There was a group of 12 of us plus one toddler. We started out the evening on the patio which was wonderful, a great outdoor dining location. It started to rain though and they moved us inside very quickly. The food was awesome (we love the crab wontons!) , the service was great and we really appreciated how hard they tried to make this a great night for my husband’s birthday. They helped me get his cake ready and even dimmed the lights when the candles were lit. We were a loud , rambuncious crowd and they took it all in stride. Thanks! We highly recommend this location for a special occasion.
I crave this place on a daily basis. (Unfortunately, I blow my attempted diets on it all the time.) The ice cream is so scrumptious! I love the concept of the hand-mixing on a “cold stone”.The lines do get long and we often wait 45 minutes, but I must say that it is worth it. I really wish they could find a way to be more efficient, but resorting to machine-mixing would take away from the charm. It can get very expensive if you add more than one mix-in.The service is usually pretty good, but the poor workers do get a little worn down on a busy night and it shows.Pros + The best ice cream!Cons – Long lines, Expensive
To the reviewer who was upset because they ‘couldn’t talk about the weather and their day or whatever struck their fancy’ anymore, and who the staff no longer cheerfully gave numerous samples to (!) hey, get real! Samples are for people who are new to the store, not meant to be your major food source! Standing there for hours ‘deciding’ and ‘chatting’ is unfair to both the staff and the other people in the store. YOU’RE the reason the staff gets cranky after a while! You’re a PAIN! The staff is there to serve up ice cream, not be your own private therapist and captive audience.
