Where is the Best Ice Cream in Portland, Oregon?
Living nearby, I had often walked past Via Delizia and in my mind dismissed the idea of patronizing it because it looked like it would be an expensive, trendy rip off suitable for the pretentiously inclined Pearl District. One day recently with a friend we went there for coffee. I had recently heard that the coffee was good.We had lattes and then later breakfast. The lattes are the best I’ve come across! The service is the best I’ve ever encountered in Portland, measuring up favorably to good service elsewhere as well. The owner, Alex, strives extra diligently for exceptional service and has trained his staff to perfection! They have a very tasty homemade coffeecake to go with one’s coffee. The breakfast omelets are good; and my friends pasta dish was good. The gelatos are excellent.
This restaurant is a gem, set in what I believe is an old Dairy Queen or other fast food building. The food is seasonal, with a specials menu that usually is almost half the size of the regular menu. The quality of the fresh and perfectly cooked sea food is beyond compare in the Portland area. If this restaurant was downtown, it would be impossible to get a table! Everything is made from scratch, from the wonderful soups, to the fantastic scones that accompany your breakfast selection on the weekends. Fresh Salmon or Halibut dishes run are under $18, including soup or salad, and the portions are large. I usually cannot pass up the crab cakes, which have ALOT of wonderful crab in them, and are always cooked perfectly (never greasy). The cheap eats menu is great, served during certain hours at dinner, this menu has 5-7 selections for $2.95, with a selection that changes each month. Some of the servers are less than attentive, but this appears to be because this place is a little
One of the best ice cream shops I’ve ever visited. Besides the great ice cream there’s art on the walls (which changes regularly), live music on weekends (everything from local R&B singers to traditional Eastern European), and an energetic welcoming staff. Their ice cream is outstanding and while they may not have 5 billion flavors to choose from, what flavors that are offered are homemade and superb. Their standards include Dark & Milk Chocolate, Strawberry & Cream, Coffee and , my favorite, Peanut Butter Blitz. They also have seasonal & special flavors (Malted Milk Egg, Eggnog, Grandma’s Peanut Butter Fudge, Cheesecake) that change often, plus excellent Sorbets. I’ve been way too many times and I plan on going back many more.Pros + Inexpensive, Friendly Staff, Great Atmosphere
