Where is the Best Healthy Food in Austin, Texas?
When i come to firebowl, I am reminded of Pei Wei (A lower end Chinese Restaurant). The restaurant has a trendy look to it on the inside and a nice patio to enjoy the food with the weather. The portions are a good size and come at a fair price. I did enjoy the Pad Thai here, but it was not as good as some of the other places I have had. I was slightly disappointed with the red curry dish I had because the spices overwhelmed what I wanted to taste the most…. The coconut red curry. The Singaporean curry noodles was rather bland to my taste. My coworkers seem to enjoy the crispy and sweet sesame chicken. Still… in the end we still come back here for the food… so they must be doing something right… right?
Going to Whole Foods seems to be a religious experience in Austin. No one seems to mind paying high prices for groceries and “specialty” foods and make-your-own salads. Maybe there aren’t any other grocery stores in the area? And parking is a nightmare, you have to fight for spots in the garage like at a mall at Christmas time. We…
Man, is it refreshing to go to an all vegan restaurant. It’s like being normal again. No need to ask what is in things, no need to get excited about a dish only to find out it has some obscure and unnecessary ingredient that comes from butterfat. Just being able to eat whatever you damn-well please. This was exactly like that… sorta. Hmm. I loved this restaurant, and would consider it in my top 5 restaurants of all time. I loved the buffet(ish) style, but I could see how some people wouldn’t really enjoy it. I really wish I could have stayed in Austin longer to give it another go. This is how the setup worked: -You get a token for $12 -You serve yourself salad, soup, and a choice of water or tea (tea was excellent) -You sit down, enjoy your soup and salad -Someone brings you a plate of assorted food in exchange for your token (this day it was bean and corn empanadas with a coconut sauce, steamed collards with a delectable dressing, red onion and cilantro garnish for the
I went in here because one of my friends was eating at Schlotsky’s across the street, and I didn’t think they would have very many vegan options there. Fortunately the first page of the menu at Veggie Heaven was “Top 5 Vegan Dishes” I ordered the #1, entitled, “Protein 2000”. It was basically vegetable protein, steamed broccoli , and amazing rice. I also got a creamy mango bubble tea (make sure you ask for this to be prepared vegan). Wow was everything tasty! The vegetable protein tasted a lot like sesame chicken, although it didn’t give off the feeling that it was trying to be “mock-meat”. The broccoli was perfectly steamed, and WOW, was the rice perfect. I would go as far as to say; best plain brown rice I’ve ever tasted. The bubble tea followed suit; best bubble tea I’ve ever had. On top of this, I placed a to go order, and it was ready in about three minutes (and they were packed full!). If this place was all vegan they would be getting “5 Happycows” from me for sure… the last co
