Any visit to Newport must include a visit to The Black Pearl. Diners can choose from the tavern, the main dining room or the fun outside cafe. Any meal is not complete without an order of chowder. Rich with clams and potatoes, a creamy broth topped with dill and lemon, this is the quintessential New England styled chowder. The Pearl also features stellar burgers, fish and chips and grilled fish. For a sepcial treat, end your meal with the key lime pie. Pros + Clam chowder; brunch; key lime pie.

We got lucky and found a parking space right in front of Brick Alley. Not know anything about it except the awards posted by the front door, we took a chance and were very happy with our lunch. My husband’s steak and cheese sandwich was huge and very good, I chose the Buffalo chicken pizza and this was wonderful, just really tasty. My sister picked the club sandwich and it was very generous too. Can’t wait to go back and try the dinner options sometime. Our server was pleasant and refilled drinks right way – nice. The salad bar looked good. Bathrooms were spotless, which is one of my criteria for a top rating.Pros + Good food, great portions, friendly staff who looked like they enjoy working thereCons – parking (its Newport after all), not much else!

Kartabar is a little expensive, but worth it. The martini list is extensive. Appetizers ranging from coconut shrimp, to 2 types of calamari, to amazing hummus. Dinners include wraps, and pastas. I had the gnocci diablo, with filet mignon and a spicey tomato sauce (16.95 I think). Do yourself a favor and make reservations. If it’s cold out, you don’t want to sit in the new seperate dining area unless your party is going to be the only one in there; it gets chilly with the door being open and shut!Pros + selection, drinksCons – street parking, busy
