Where is the Best Hamburger in Portland, Oregon?
We loved staying at this one of a kind hotel on our recent visit to Portland. Each room is in a converted classroom and all are spacious and uniquely decorated. My husband loved examining all the original art, much of it inspired by the schools long history in the community. It would be perfect for a school reunion! Dinner and breakfast were both delicious. Breakfast was included, as was entry to a movie. Our one disappointment was that Oregon liquor laws prevented our 12 year old son from watching a film in the evening, since drinks and pizza are served in the theater.Pros + Unique, Free Parking
Don’t let the name mislead you. It may sound like a Denny’s, but it’s nothing even close. The service has to be mentioned here — absolutely flawless. Each and ever time I’ve been here I have not been disappointed. The entrees are fantastic, desserts decadent and delicious, and great views on to the golf course. The furnishings are a bit dated — feeling like a late 70s lounge, but it’s comfortable and warm. The menu is a variation on traditional comfort foods (thus in some ways matching the feel of the decor). But these variations make the ordinary extraordinarily good. For the quality, the prices are not unreasonable. Great place for a date or a quality meal to be had with close friends.
I love this place. Feels like going home for dinner to the home you wish you had. We eat there 3 times a month and I’ve probably eaten 60 meals there. Everything on the menu is cooked to perfection and served at the right time. The various waiters we’ve had, except for one, have been just perfect additions to the place and our meals. I’d recommend everything on the menu. The hamburger is divine, the seafood salad is generous and tasty, all the specials are special. The only reason I’m not giving it 5 stars is the waitress we’ve had the last two times. Friendly but so friendly that she spent more time schmoozing with her dining buddies than attention to taking our order, serving our order and getting us the check. We went to Cafe Castagna last night and were completely delighted. First off, the service was impeccable: prompt, informed, pleasant, and unobtrusive. The meal was superb! A standout was the braised beef angliotti recommended by our server. They were really sensational, and came in a beef broth reduction with chives and I’m guessing sherry. The fried risotto croquettes with fontina were delightful. We ordered cheeseburgers and fries based on their reputation for burgers and they did not disappoint. I think the fries were some of the best tasting fries I have had anywhere. The potato flavor was clear and earthy, the fries were properly cooked – light and crispy on the outside and creamy in the middle. The burgers were superb, and the addition of delicious house-made sweet pickles didn’t hurt either. I LIVE JUST A STONE’S THROW FROM THIS RESTAURANT AND GET TAKE OUT ABOUT 3 TIMES A MONTH. OUT OF THE LAST 10 VISITS, THEY HAVE MESSED MY AND MY WIFE’S ORDERS UP. I DON’T KNOW IF IT’S A COMMUNICATION PROBLEM, BUT YOU MAY WANT TO CHECK YOUR ORDER VERY CLOSELY BEFORE YOU LEAVE. I DO, EACH TIME…NOW. THE FOOD HAS ALWAYS BEEN GREAT AND I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THEIR SIX DOLLAR BACON GUACAMOLE BURGER. I HAVEN’T HAD ONE ANY WHERE ELSE THAT COMES CLOSE EXCEPT IN HAWAII, AND THEY DON’T HAVE A DRIVE THRU THERE.Pros + THEY ARE QUICKCons – CHECK YOUR ORDER BEFORE LEAVING. TRUST ME.
