Where is the Best Hamburger in Memphis, Tennessee?
So I know Im not cooking, but where do we want to go? 9/10 times we end up at J. Alexanders. The atmosphere is perfect – dark wood, dim lighting. The food is very good. I give it 4 stars instead of 5 only out of respect for places like Erling Jensens. Still, the food is yummy. The prime rib, crab cakes, fish sandwiches and even cheeseburgers are delicious! If you can catch them on a day that they have their smoked salmon dip for an appetizer, get it! The bartender makes a perfect Cosmo and the mac & cheese is so good.
If you are looking for great place with mid-high prices this is it. While it is not cheap it is only slightly more than the popular casual dinning chains. The steaks are very good, especially the chili rubbed delmonico, and the house salad is the very best. My wife and 5 year old daughter love it as well as I do. The wine prices are a little high but the seleciton is very good and the martinis are excellent. The service is never average; it is usually excellent though our first experience was sub par and we almost never came back. This is a fine dinning experience in a casual atmosphere with more than generous portions and excellent preparation and flavor! Try it.Pros + The foodCons – Service has been subpar on occasion but a quick call to the manager will fix that every time
In addition to being a locally owned and operated business, Huey’s offers eclectic music each Sunday evening and night (yes, Sundays only). The music ranges from down-home bluegrass to punk rock. Huey’s has a full menu for “regular” clientele during the day and pub type grub for those staying out a bit later.
