Where is the Best Hamburger in Boulder, Colorado?
Food – Has good history, with all the caricatures on the wall of people who have been there (Robert Redford used to be a janitor there). Decent food, pizza is pretty good. Has a very low roof.Bar -At night turns into a crowded bar, nicely priced drinks ($3.50 imported beer). Monday night is packed, it is flip night, where you have a 50% chance on the flip of a coin that you could get your drink for 25 cents. Lots of greeks (frat/soroity).Pros + Good prices on drinks, Good pizzaCons – Low Ceiling
Usually I don’t leave review unless I am particularly impressed by either good or bad service…in this case it’s a good one! I have been to hungry Toad at least two other times and was happy and satisfied with the food, and nice selection on imported draft beers (Fullers ESB!). I ordered the French Revolution Burger last night and it knocked my socks off! Something about beef with melty Brie Cheese on it…excellent quality beef, I’ve had some great burgers in this town, including Foolish Craig’s and The Sink, and this one may take the cake. Very homey feel to this place too, and never packed or too noisy. I would also say they seem to draw an older crowd so if you go in a for late dinner there are always tables open. Check it out!
All in all, a great bar. But I have stopped getting drinks upstairs because of that Hawaiian dude. There is no crowd of people that inspires him to move more quickly in the slightest. Nor does any crowd of patrons discourage him from chit-chatting with someone for as long as he wants, which is no short ‘hello.’ But, otherwise, a great bar.Pros + good food, reasonable prices, unpretentious atmosphereCons – that so slow Hawaiian bartender. Does he own the place?
Mountain Sun has been my favorite restaurant since I moved to Boulder 3 years ago. Contrary to what one might believe, it’s one of the few places in town to get a reasonably-priced vegetarian meal and have several options as to which meatless dish to order. They have options ranging from Mexican fare to pizza to sandwiches, soups and salads. A bonus to the wonderful food is their selection of Boulder-brewed beers. My favorite is Java Porter, a dark beer brewed with coffee. The only complaint I have with the restaurant is that it is small, and one usually has to wait at least 20-30 minutes for a table, and there is no space to wait comfortably, as it is packed and difficult to even stand. But they are about to open a new location in Boulder, which will hopefully cut down on the wait time at the original location.Pros + excellent beer, friendly staffCons – wait to be seated, no space to wait, no room for strollers
I was born in Boulder. As a child in the 80’s, my parents took me to Mustard’s A LOT. I always loved it. After moving away from Boulder and after getting my driver’s license, my friends and I would drive down to Boulder, eat at Mustard’s and go hang out on Pearl Street or The Hill. Now in my late 20’s and living in Denver, I discovered a few years ago that there is another Mustard’s on University & Evans. BOTH locations have never disappointed me. I still order the same thing I ordered when I was a kid, cheddar dog with a pickle, some cheese fries & a coke. Simple, yet always pleasing. Both Mustard’s locations are deserving of 5 stars, but a walk in, order at the counter hot dog stand does not count as a 5 star restaurant in my opinion. This is the ONLY reason I did not give Mustard’s a 5 star rating.Pros + The food in consistant, always GREAT!Cons – Sometimes it takes a little longer than it should to get a simple hot dog and sometimes the counters are sticky
