Since I moved from Tokyo to the U.S. sixteen years ago, I have gone to countless salons (high-end-schmancy places, Japanese salons, etc.). Once you get used to the level/skill/sense of trend of Japanese hair styling, expectations are high and you become easily disappointed….and, perhaps like me, end up wearing hats all the time. Anyway, I read the reviews for Ultra (love the name) and made an appointment for my daughter Anya since I already had an appointment with a Japanese salon in D.C. Anya brought in a sketch and conveyed the usual, “wash-and-go, nothing fussy please.” . Gia understood exactly what she wanted and gave her a gorgeous cut that is no fuss in the morning. I was so impressed with Anya’s cut that I cancelled my D.C. appointment and made one with Ultra. Gia and Sharyn gave me a great consultation and we were all on the same page. Gia gave me highlights, a gloss, and a cut. I walked out of there impressed, feeling fabulous and looking 10 years younger. So many

I’ve been a devotee of Adrienne for nearly 10 years in NY — and when she’s busy, I would happily go to Carlos or Pam (all of whom are now in Philly!). They all have the same great, funny, relaxed vibe and it’s a pleasure to spend the hour with them. What I love about going is that while they offer thoughts or suggestions about your style, they always ask you FIRST what you are looking for, and work with that. I’ve never felt pushed or overly encouraged to do something I wasn’t comfortable with! And they really take into account your lifestyle (ie, I am super lazy with my hair, and they always give me a cut that’s pretty, chic, and just-edgy-enough while still being very low-maintenance). I should add, my husband, who is a total boy’s boy, spent 29 years of his life happily going to a regular barbershop. He now rearranges his work schedule to see Carlos. I’m just sad that now in order to see them that I have to get on a Bolt bus to Philly! But it’s totally worth it.Pros + chic,

I searched all over this city for a good hairdresser – and finally gave up and found someone reasonable and good in NYC – but he retired! I tried someone at a salon around 8th & Walnut and received the worst haircut in my whole life! I searched the internet and decided to try Edmondo Blando (Eddie) at Salon Vanity. My hair is fine and must be cut well – cut in the way that it falls naturally – not into some shape from a magazine. I live and die by the cut! I have now been twice to see Eddie and am very pleased with the haircuts that he has given me. I especially like that he uses a technique whereby he cuts my hair “dry.” It seems to make a big difference. I had actually heard of this technique and was considering traveling to NYC again to try a hairdresser who “cuts dry.” But I then found out that this is how Eddie cuts hair (I believe following the techniques of the internationally known Swiss hairdresser Mike Karg). My hair feels and looks natural and grows in nicely and I

I am so thrilled that Jon is back at Pileggi’s. This is where he belongs! I have been following Jon for over 12 years now and he has been consistently amazing with my (and my friends’) hair. He is so amazing in creating the best patterns for my highlights. I like to wear my hair curly too and he really knows how to cut curly hair. I travel a lot and sometimes I need to go to a stylist for a quick dry or cut, and I could never find anyone who does it like Jon. I love the way my highlights are so fine and dimensional. He knows color and can do anything. I get compliments all the time. He is fun to chat with, handsome (tall, dark and handsome). and very charming. And he listens to you and your hair needs. Never tried to sell me anything that he didn’t think it would improve the health of my hair. And now that he’s back at this beautiful salon, is even better. The salon is truly stylish and classy. Jon Christopher (Fishwick) is a great stylist and someone you want to know!Pros + discoun
