This upscale health club is in a league of its own. I have had gym memberships all over san diego and when I moved to La Jolla I gladly turned in my old gym card for theirs. What makes them stand out is their staff. Right when you walk in, you are greeted with a smile and a friend. The staff knows their members’ by name, and they actually try to get to know you! Trainers are very helpful on the floor and very professional as well. Buying a membership from La Jolla Sports club is a one of a kind experience too. They aren’t “used car salesmen”, its very reasonable and you don’t feel like you are being ripped off. You are not just another number to them. I can tell they hire the staff to cater to the members … where else can you find a sharp dressed male folding towels to hand to you?Pros + Customer Service, very professional, great instructorsCons – none

The Mission Valley Bally’s is small, dark, and usually smelly. They have a lot of old equipment that really needs to be updated. They can’t compare to the “luxury” gyms like Golds in Sports Arena area, but they do have less expensive membership dues. They also have a pool and a full running track. If they updated/remodeled the club and added some better classes, it would be a much more pleasant experience to go there.Pros + lower costsCons – dark, dank atmosphere, class variety

It’s never overly crowded unless it’s New Year’s and everyone is there to make good on a resolution, thus panting on the machines upstairs, and especially YOUR machine-you know, the one you usually do your cardio on. Bastard. No worries, come mid-February you can have your machine back.TVs for each machine-nice if I want to switch between the news and the game. The staff is pretty friendly and nice.Locker room and towel service included, along with unlimited classes. Also, the membership fees aren’t astronomical. I signed up as a referral and got a pretty good deal on my membership. The downside is that some of the machines are a little outdated, but I think they’re working on it. Also, during yoga you might have a spin class outside so while you’re trying to be all zen or buddha or what have you, the music and the people outside are loud thus disrupting your flow. Still, you have to keep in mind this is a GYM and not a yoga studio. If the contract has font that is too small to

Ppsshh ‘Deb’ probably works for City Boxing. Management started from a ridiculously high price then supposedly brought it down to a low price. I checked online later and saw that the ‘low’ price they came up with was actually the regular price advertised. So do your research!Mike was really nice when trying to get me to sign up. But they make you feel forced to put money down as soon as you walk in. Stupid me, I signed up. That night I felt I was hussled for money so the very next day I went to cancel. They say it takes 30 days to get my money back!!! It hadn’t even been 24 hours since I signed!!! Mike became very arrogant and rude once he found out I was leaving. He kills it for the gym!!! Makes people feel ripped off. Read the terms. If you sign on the dotted line you have 5 days to cancel, but it supposedly takes 30 days to get your money back. After the 5 days, if you aren’t happy, TOO BAD, you can only cancel if you move 25 miles or more away or if you become disable
