Where is the Best Gym in New York, New York?

Let me start by saying – I HATE the gym and I hate anything resembling a gym workout. Weights bore me, the treadmill and elliptical machines put me to sleep. Just getting to the gym was a mental battle for me…and not because I’m lazy. I was a pre prefessional ballet dancer but at the age of 21 I had to stop dancing due to injuries. 6 years later…I was overweight and in the worst shape of my life. I heard some pretty kick a$$ things about Cher and decided to give her a shot. Nothing was even close to what I expected…it was way better. I walked into high performance expecting some super posh snotty vibe and was blown away at how down to earth everyone was. I was literally sharing the floor with an A list celebrity and a house mom…and both were getting the same killer workout. Cher never takes anything less than 100% from me. I was sweating like a beast within the first 10 minutes of our session….and when she said “we are done” i was shocked the time went by so fast. Yesterda

I’ve always loved dancing, but also found it to be one of the most mortifying things we people do in public. It’s like trying to sing in front of people when you can’t carry a tune, or public speaking in a foreign language. There’s something really intimidating about it, which is why alcohol helps so much.I took hip-hop here with Jessica, and she’s so encouraging and positive that she addresses half the issue with dancing, which is all in the head. But she definitely knows what she’s doing and can help with the technique side of the process, so that you’re learning the moves in the right way, too. This isn’t the place to go if you’re looking to spin on your head and make a living performing at subway stations. But if you want to learn moves you can actually USE, it’s perfect! It’s a safe place where you get what you put into it–I’ve loved all the classes I’ve taken here.If you’re the type to sit out at weddings while everyone else seems to have a good time on the dance flo

“This is the Flagship of Equinox!”. It’s just another Equinox, that’s in the basement of a building. Disappointing, it’s just like any other Equinox. It’s obvious that they are paying a steep lease because the finish/look/quality isn’t even “minimalist”, let alone high-end. 3/4 of the club has baren cream walls & unfinished ceilings. Locker rooms are ok but nothing special. Clay & The Gym put this club to shame in a NY second. These clubs excel in detail, luxury, hipness factor where Equinox fails. Also, one must enter through the juice bar to enter, lame feature. It’s uninspired & over priced: 500 initiation + 140/month. It closes (the showers are cut off!) at 8:45 pm on Saturday night, go figure? It’s just another over priced, very average gym-nothing special indeed.Pros + location, new equipmentCons – inflated price, baren Cheap look, limited weekend hours

I love when you first join Club H you are immediately given a tour of the gym and you get an assessment by one of the trainers there. Its really nice to be able to get acquainted with a gym before you start actually using it and that?s what the trainers helped me do. I wanted a trainer because I had stopped playing sports competitively and therefore knew I needed to change my workout style. The trainers had great recommendations and really gave me a lot of insight. The workout regiment they prescribed to me was very personal and catered to my likes and dislikes while working out. I really love club H because it?s always so clean and not crowded all the time. It basically has everything you could want from a gym.

As a teacher I am always looking for value. Chelsea Piers offers the best equipment and classes at a great price. The upscale amenities make you feel like you are being treated every time you go to the gym. The clientele is top notch and the cafeteria offers food that is obviously nutritional but on top of that, GOOD! I am excited to stop by the piers for a quick workout or simply spend half a day there on the weekends. I have been a member at other gyms in the city but I routinely grow board of the “gym” workout. I have been a Chelsea Piers member for several years now and I continue to find exciting activities. The rock wall is massive and the pool is huge. With a full size indoor track I can get all my workouts in even during the winter months. I have not been brave enough to step in to the boxing ring, but the beach volley ball court offers something for everyone, even a novice like me.The staff is knowledgeable and unpretentious. I don’t feel as though I am being judged
