Where is the Best Group Dining in Memphis, Tennessee?
this is one of my favorite restaurants! my friends and i discovered it when we attended rhodes college, and the prices fit perfectly with our college-student budgets. years later, i still do not come to memphis without making a stop at this restaurant. i’ve brought my parents, out-of-town friends, and co-workers, and everyone loves it! the food is fabulous, and so is the patio! i saw that someone had given it a con because there was no wine list, but you can bring your own wine. also, when it’s really busy, you can put your name on the list, give them your cell number, and go across the street to the blue monkey (a great bar) to have a drink, and they will call you when your table is ready. you MUST try this place
So I know Im not cooking, but where do we want to go? 9/10 times we end up at J. Alexanders. The atmosphere is perfect – dark wood, dim lighting. The food is very good. I give it 4 stars instead of 5 only out of respect for places like Erling Jensens. Still, the food is yummy. The prime rib, crab cakes, fish sandwiches and even cheeseburgers are delicious! If you can catch them on a day that they have their smoked salmon dip for an appetizer, get it! The bartender makes a perfect Cosmo and the mac & cheese is so good.
After over half a century, Pete and Sam’s is still the best. The atmosphere is refreshingly non-stuffy and perfect for a large family, the wait staff is always friendly and most importantly, the food is outstanding…time-tested recipes unchanged by trends or fads.The Veal Scallopini with a side of sausage pizza and ravioli with a fresh, crisp Italian salad is an incredible feast that I have enjoyed for years. Occasionally, I will sample my wife’s eggplant parmisan and it’s very, very good as well.The wine list is up to you. Stop by Buster’s Liquor at Poplar and Highland on the way…Pete & Sam’s is BYOB for a small corkage fee.If you are looking to spend $$$$ for modern ambience and food that is more suitable to the eye then the palate, may I suggest another restaurant. This is a franchise restaurant, so don’t expect some quiet or trendy urban restaurant. Its decor is like any other franchise restaurant, over the top, gaudy, but fitting for the type of restaurant this is. This is not the place to go if you are wanting a quiet dinner, its loud, and does a fair amount of its business in liquor. That being said, they have some rather tasty menu choices. As an appetizer I would recommend the dip made with the goat cheese. Its served with toasted bread and served in roasted red bell peppers. The Chicken Santiago is an excellent dish on the more affordable side of the menu, and is served with an excellent sauce and comes with fried yucca which is very good. For desert the cheesecake is excellent. If you are looking for an intimate dinner look elsewhere, but for a fun night out with friends this is an excellent destination.
