Where is the Best Group Dining in Charleston, South Carolina?
This is a jewel among Charleston’s crowded restaurant scene. Chef, Jeremiah Bacon, worked under Eric Ripert and Thomas Keller, two of the best chef’s in the world, (if you watch Top Chef, you’ve seen them) and came back to Charleston because he’s a local boy and boy was that a good thing for Charleston.Everything that comes out of his kitchen is amazing. Not flashy or trendy, but deceptively simple in a way that lets the quality of the local seasonal food shine through. It’s hard to recommend a specific dish because this is a seasonal menu that changes according to what’s freshest and and available locally, much of which is grown for him on a local plantation. I am, as my screen name implies, a litlle picky, but I’ve tried things he’s cooked, ( like pork belly), that I never thought I’d like and wanted to clean the plate. I moved from NJ two years ago and Gennaro’s is the closest I’ve found to NY/NJ Pizza! It’s delicious! Soft crust and the sauce is nice and sweet! Make sure you stop in to say “hi” to Wheezi and get a drink at the bar while waiting for your pick-up! Also, don’t forget to check out the jazz on Thursday nights too! The smell of the smoker fills your nostrils with a wonderful odor as you drive through the parking lot. The only thing better than the smell is the taste of the ribs falling off the bone onto your tongue. Wow! Tender and delicious. The pulled pork, chicken and brisket are to die for. If you want something lighter there are unique salads and sides to choose from. While you’re munching on the ribs, do not miss the Mac N Cheese. Ron has put something like five different cheeses onto those large tender zitis. Try crumbling a little bacon onto that and heaven help you. They have a multitude of different beers on tap as well as a large assortment of local beers in the bottle. They are also know for their bourbons. If you go later, they have blues and jazz artists three to five times a week. A wonderful place to come and hang out.
