I absolutely adored this place for its casual atmosphere and great healthy food. The last two times I have gone and have been seriously disappointed. Fist, they are no longer counter service, they have waiters. Second, it seems that some of the ingredients have been changed. For instance, the nachos, which I adored before, seem to use a different kind of cheese that is not near as good. That or the quality of the cooking has just gone down. One more drawback – no more free chips which was a nice touch. BUT, I do still love their brownies! Pros + healthyCons – service, decreased quality
If you are looking for a place to call your own, then Roeders Pub is your answer. The drink selections are vast – be it a martini that tickles your fancy, a cool mixed drink, a pint of your favorite ale or even a chilled shot of Tuaca or Jagermeister. The bartenders are some of the best I have come across – great at what they do and make you feel right at home. Many a time I have seen a person who has only been in once before be surprised that the bartender remembered what their drink prefence is. If there is an import beer or special liquor you fancy but they don’t carry, let them know and Ben and Sandy Roeder will try and take care of you the next time. I have seen previous reviews say that there are a lot of regulars that frequent the bar almost as if that is a bad thing – kind of tells you something about the staff and owners, I think. BIG Houston sports fans, especially Astros. For the smoking sports fan bummed about the smoking ban, you can still enjoy the game, your drink and
We love this place. Great food – try the curries on Wednesday evenings, a choice from 7 curries and a pint for $16.Every week night finds some special, Steak, Burger, Curry, Meatballs, Fish & Chips, and all top notch food. The beers’s a tiny bit pricey – although you can always drink “lite” beer for next to nothing. Loads of choice, real British Ale and a British Boozer atmosphere to match. The star of the show is George, the surfer barman, if you’re lucky enough to get in while he’s working, he’s incredibly knowledgeable about what’s going on in Houston and elsewhere, and will always point you inthe right direction about what’s on the menu, and more importantly, what’s off the menu – there’s always loads of stuff not listed.Just try it.Pros + Great Food, great beer, and the surfer barman – fantasticCons – A tiny bit pricey but hey, it’s worth it.
This Greek bar is classy without being overly pretentious. The decor is unlike most bars you’ll find in town. Be sure to take a closer look at the photography on the walls — it’s really good.An earlier review of mine hinted at a recent bad experience, but hopefully that was just an off night, as this place has long been a favorite, especially on quieter nights (it can get very busy on belly dancer nights).
