Oh, the Laurelhurst. My absolute favorite theater. The beer on tap, available by the glass or pitcher, and rotating per seasonals, are worth the three dollar admission. Add to that affordable wines by the bottle (er, carafe), and pizza, and we’ve started off on the right foot. We try to make it a weekly visit. The staff (with a one-time exception) are super-nice, and did I mention they show movies? In addition to showing your hits and misses after they leave the multiplex, Laurelhurst wants you to remember some past faves with a weekly featured flick. They used to serve Pizzicato pizza, but recently moved to serving their own pie made at their side-project cafe. Honestly, I liked Pizzicato’s pizza better, but if they can shape up their new crusts, they might be on to something; I’m holding hope that they are still in trial and error mode over there. This is a highly recommended establishment–they do it right. As I’ve often said, I’ll see just about anything if it’s playing a

Positives: The view is amazing. The food is wonderful. Lounge will transfer your tab up to your table when the reservations are ready. AMAZING lobster bisque.Negatives: Price and service. The lounge was not very professional and were confused on how to make my drink (Kettle One Vodka on the rocks) Tough one, I know. They charge for a glass of soda water, as if everything else we are ordering isn’t enough. Our waiter started off strong and was very attentive. After our appetizers he began to drift…didn’t clear our plates for some time, had to ask another waiter for drinks and water because we had not been checked on in so long. We were given our bill and still wanted another glass of wine but we were not asked, the bill was just dropped and he took off. Finally we were able to flag him down (after 7-8 minutes) and order our wine. He made it a point to hurry a new bill over to us and once he saw me place my car in the folder he was on it like a hawk. I HATE when you get poor

I was surprised when I walked in to Doug Fir restaurant for a breakfast meeting this morning to see only one other table seated. When the “hostess” eventually seated me, I realized why. She was simply annoyed that I’d walked in the door. It was breakfast – a little heavy, a little bit of a limited menu, but overall fine. That surly hostess just sort of set a rotten tone. She should be unemployed.Pros + Good enough breakfastCons – Sour hostess

I was an accidental tourist. Made a wrong turn looking for gas off the beaten path. I alternated between cussing myself due to the needle on my gas gage pointing to EMPTY and breathlessly exclaming what a gorgeous camping area “I had discovered”. I kept reassuring myself that the promised gas station would surely appear as I continued to drive up, up and up! “Wow, I’ll just have to come back this way when I have a full tank of gas. So much like Devil’s Lake in Wisconsin!” “Oh no! Almost really sitting on EMPTY!” Now down, down and down. There’s the gas sign once again. Do I believe them this time or should I try for the freeway. Well worth the missed turns and anxiety over the empty gas tank! This was in the fall of 2004. I’ve “accidently” found myself there twice more.Pros + Breathtaking veiws.Cons – Parking
