Where is the Best First Date Spot in New York, New York?
went to boqueria saturday night for tapas after a recent trip to barcelona. they don’t take reservations, but we (2 ppl) didn’t have to wait at all for a table despite the restaurant being more or less full. great, lively atmosphere, crowded yet still comfortable, loud but in a good way, and the service was excellent. esp for a busy restaurant, our glasses were always full, and our waitress checked in with us often. the sangria was great, and the food was pretty tasty overall – we ordered 6 plates + a dessert and were pleased with them all. the salted peppers were the most interesting and worth trying, the patatas excellent, the chorizo and jamon serrano standard, but the lamb skewer was too chewy and as much fat as meat. cheese plates seem to be on the small side for the price, but good quality. give it a try, if the food isn’t the most exciting, the atmosphere and service will probably make up for it.Pros + service, atmosphereCons – some plates too small, lamb skewers
We’ve become regulars at Hearth, and love it. Saturday found the restaurant NOT in good form. We sat down, ordered our meal, and half an hour later, our appetizers had not arrived. It was odd because, fifteen minutes before, the waiter had come by to tell us they were on the way, and he was sorry for the delay. Ten minutes later, we heard the chef yell WHERE ARE THOSE FIRSTS? Talking about ours. We were ready to leave, because that wasn’t the only problem. Then they came out, and the manager came out, with corporate double speak, just making us angrier. Finally, the chef came out, serving us our entrees personally, and apologizing for the “miscommunication.” What miscommunication? There wasn’t any, at least not on our part. The food WAS good, and we enjoyed it and ordered dessert, which was also wonderful. When we asked for the bill, they told us they were comping us on the whole dinner because of their goofs. Could NOT have been more apologetic. We didn’t feel we co
Little Branch is one of those places that I’d never have tried if my friend didn’t suggest it. The nearly unmarked on the corner of Leroy and 7th Ave door leads downstairs to a fairly small bar with only a handful of tables — and sometimes it can take a while to procure one. My group of 4 got to LB around 11:30pm this past Saturday night… we waited on line for around 20 minutes, which was acceptable. I understood that this kind of bar isn’t one where you want to be knocking elbows and rubbing against people just to use the restroom. LB does a great job of making sure its customers feel like they are being taken care of and feel comfortable. There’s nothing worse (in my opinion) than a small, dark, crowded bar filled with guys groping women looking to get sloppy and hook up — and I’m a guy so I know what I am talking about. LB is about having a drink, trying something new, and keeping yourself under control… in fact the back of the drink menus tell customers the proper way t
great place for an late afternoon or early evening drink with friends, especially during the summer months, great lighting, good service and very french 🙂 i enjoy having a glass of ricard (very french anise drink) and a light snack of cheese plate or avacado toast…music can range from avant-garde jazz, world music and/or williamsburg hipster rock…but, free of charge to dine and listen! don’t forget to tip the musicians…they earn solely on our (as customers) tips…Pros + atmosphere, serviceCons – can be noisy at times
I had had a very long day. My girlfriend and I had decided to go someplace we’d never been. We happened along Savoy and sat for dinner around 7:30 on this particular Sunday evening. We were led upstairs to a quaint corner table overlooking the intersection below. We ordered a hearty meal as to repress the stresses of the day. I usually never order a soup as an app but took the chance and was won over by the cream of garlic and pork sausage. Plenty of flavor and was paired well with a glass of white wine by the manager. The lady had delightful watercress, strawberries and pork belly, an refreshingly interesting combination. We followed that with the house recommended duck and the suckling pig. Both entrees were superb and finished off with bottle of red (that the restaurant owners produce or own themselves). I so very pleased with the service, the descriptions, and the food that I have made the effort to go back several times since. Keep up the good work.
