Where is the Best First Date Spot in Dallas, Texas?
I haven’t been to Fuse in awhile. I had the filet of beef tenderloin and overall it was pretty tasty. If you’re into the whole TexAsian fusion scene, you’ll probably get a better feel or liking to this place then I did. Not that it’s bad, because it wasn’t. I will say that I was not impressed with the waitstaff suggested Veraison Black Bart’s Rose. I opted for the Bonny Doon Cardinal Zin and didn’t particularly find much to rave about it either. They have (or at least used to, not sure if it’s still there) the big rooftop patio area. So if you’re in to the whole people-watching thing, there’s plenty of it to be had out there. But I’d say it’d be a fun place to hit up if you’d like to grab some food and be able to lounge around outside afterwards.
Tei Tei had been recommended to me by an associate, but my decision to go was rather spontaneous after realizing another room service meal at my hotel was just not appetizing. I arrived at the restaurant famished (and cranky), without a reservation, and was a bit grumpy at finding that the only available space was at the sushi bar. Initial service was a bit slow, but once the manager noticed I was twitchy he personally took care of my orders and did an excellent job of making me feel more welcome and well taken care of. One of the key attractions at Tei Tei is the robata style of cooking, which involves cooking food like seafood, vegetables, and meats over traditional oak charcoal. In order to sample some of the robata-style offerings I ordered the house specialty marinated sea bass (the marinade is miso-based) and grilled shishito peppers. And for a more “normal” sampling, I also ordered the chef’s choice sashimi combination with fresh grated wasabi and a spicy tuna hand roll with cuc
My wife and I were running a bit short on time before attending the symphony, so we immediately thought tapas and decided to give Sangria a try. It was early on a Saturday night (6:15 perhaps) and we were seated immediately. Our server came by quickly and was very personable, but not in an intrusive and gum-smacking, “my name is Skippy and I’ll be yer server tonite” sort of way. We told him we were in a bit of a rush and ordered the standard sangria (for me) and the champagne sangria (for her). I’ve never really gotten into sangria before, and this sangria left me feeling the same way. It might be fine sangria, but I’ll not try it again. We ordered four tapas and were pleased with the speed and efficiency of the service. The patatas bravas con aioli were plentiful and nicely crisp and spiced, but while the sauces were tasty, there was not nearly enough of either. The Esparragos y Setas a la Plancha (Asparagus and oyster mushrooms sauteed with olive oil and garlic) were outstand
I’ve been a handful of times, and it looks like the Borgas have another success on their hands. The decor is sleek and sophisticated. I’ve sampled probably half the offerings on the menu (most through nipping bites from friends’ plates), and have yet to be disappointed. Favorites include the shrimp volcanes and the fried rice. Definitely order the Shaken Mariana, a delightful drink that my friends and I call Sunshine in a Glass. -Van PPros + Lots of parking and great foodCons – none today 🙂
