Where is the Best Fireside Dining in Sacramento, California?
Call for the fine print on Thursday night appetizers. There are only a few discounted items and only after 9PM. Drinks and food were good. My throat was sore after speaking loudly over dinner in the bar booths, very loud. Firside dining with the waterfall outside looks fun. My g/friend thought the appetizer menu lacked variety. Too much had seafood (rock shrimp, calamari, etc) or was stuff you find everyother place. The house steak speciality served with 4 different things, was good but rather expensive for $25. My boyfriend treated me to a romantic dinner. I live really close to this place and every time we go over the bridge on the way home I mention it looks cool, so we went here. It is pretty expensive. Drinks and food = $100. Normal…But I see all these reviews about the manager coming over and the wait-staff being so good. I think it is a bunch of hoopla! Our waiter sucked! He paid attention only to families and the customers that the manager was visiting. Which one old couple got a visit from the manager, and he sat and talked, but we went entirely unnoticed by both the management and the waiter. (I had to drink my boyfriend’s water because the waiter was not attentive enough to bring me any). The bar was the best part, it’s upstairs. The bartender was nice and personable. If I would have known that the service would be so crappy downstairs, I would have requested to dine in the bar area. I went here for a day-late mother?s day dinner with my parents and my boyfriend. Our waiter was really on top of things and friendly. The atmosphere was relaxing, and the waterfalls did a great job with noise cancelation. We shared three appetizers; my favorite was the warm herbed goat cheese with pistachios, roasted pears, and red wine syrup, with crostini, though all were good. Other favorites from my party’s selections were the Nappa cabbage salad with chicken, cashews, and a Chinese black bean vinaigrette. My salmon was cooked to perfection and I loved the polenta it was served with. My mom raved about her lamb. We shared deserts; the Strawberry Rhubarb Crisp and the Apple Crostada were both presented well, though you would never know looking on, because as soon as they appeared they were gone. The bill was not cheap, but the food and atmosphere were worth it, and we took food home. I think we could have eaten for half the cost and not gone away hungry if there weren’t so many good
This is a great restaurant but not for its food or for its guest policies. This is a great place to dine for its outdoor patio/deck that faces the Sacramento River. Parking is only validated if you are dining there Monday-Friday for business. A divided and ‘guest preferred’ policy; you’ll pay approx; $6-$8 if you dine on weekends or holidays. Strange but true…The menu is varied and it changes quality by chefs and general managers. I’ve been dining there for 10 years now because I like its views, patio, staffing and ‘just sometimes’ its food. For 2007, the restaurants lunch menu has changed again and just as an example, all sandwiches during lunch come with ‘Garlic Fries’. In oil. On the plate… No alternative options except those wet-greasy fries. The menu exhibits oils, cremes, sauces and fat instead of being healthy California if even in concept.
