Where is the Best Fireside Dining in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania?
It might seem like a contradiction to say that a place has “space” as a pro and “no room to move” as a con, but it’s accurate. Plough and the Stars’ biggest problem is that it draws so much of a crowd. The staff at Plough are great. Most are very knowledgeable about beers on tap, as well as what each beer is and what food it might go well with. If you roll through there a lot, the bouncers will definitely remember you. The bartenders are no joke. You can give them a five drink order and it’s very rare you’ll find anything isn’t right. They also pour a pretty heavy drink; there are no watered down drinks at Plough.Before the crowd arrives, there’s ample room on two floors to enjoy yourself. You can find plenty of space to sit as well as stand or dance to the good range of music they play. Some may not like it, but I personally enjoy not feeling like I have American Top 40 on in the bar all the time. On the down side…well, it does get damn crowded. And when it gets crowd
I have been to Albertos for many occasions from a romantic dinner for two in the wine cellar to a banquet held for 50. Each experierence has been better then the previous. The food is excellent!!!!! The location is perfect. The dining rooms are beautiful and the service was impeccable EVERY TIME! They will make you anything you want if it is within the realm of possibility. Lastly, the price was right too. You don’t pay for a dinner and leave hungry there the portions are more than generous and that goes for the martinis as well. I suggest you go dinner and for sunday brunch and try the wine they produce themselves.Pros + all good
My husband & I went to George’s for our anniversary. After reading the reviews of others on this site I was worried, but my fears were unfounded. Perhaps the staff is now better trained – but we had a lovely young (well, late 20’s/early 30’s) waiter who was very professional and knowledgable about the menu and wine. We started with the tuna cappchio (sp?) – which was wonderful and fresh. I had the salmon and my husband had the rib steak – both cooked to perfection. I worried that the salmon would be heavy b/c it is listed as being “poached” in olive oil – but just a wondful flavor and not greasy as I feared. We both enjoyed a side pear salad that was dressed with a tasty vinegrette (my favorite part of the meal). Not big portions but not skimpy either. All of the sides are ala carte, so our bill, with wine, ran about $125 – but we had a delightful experience and plan to return soon.Pros + Great food, nice staff, not overly casual – just nice and relaxing!Cons – Everything is ala
