Where is the Best Fireside Dining in New York, New York?

The place was nice and my girlfriend and I definately enjoyed ourselves – but weren’t blown away. There was a private party in the garden, which I’m told is rare, so the only tables for 2 were in the main room, it was so dark we could barely read the menu, but it was nice and kind of romantic. The abience is very nice. My girlfriend had a margarita she said was ok, and I had a soda that somehow tasted terrible, like the line was dirty. The chips were tasty…the steak and chicken fajitahs were good, a bit too much sauce on the meat for my taste. The other dish was arroz con pollo, the chicken was delicions and the rice was a greasy but good. The bill was low 50’s, pricey for what we got. I had a good time and would go back, but won’t rush to.Pros + friendly service, good foodCons – tad pricey, very dark table

Maybe it was due to the scaffolding outside the restaurant or the time (Saturday night at 7 pm), but the place had a much more gloomy, dark feeling than the video image on the website. It didn’t help that the place was only about 20% full. It just didn’t feel like the lively restaurant I would have imagined based on their site. The menu selections were also more limited (and more expensive) than the online menu. None of the web listed desserts were on the menu. I didn’t see anyone getting wine by the pitcher – I just know they charged $11 a glass for the house red my wife ordered. The service was pleasant, nothing special. I had the special seafood rissotto appetizer and the duck. My wife had an appetizer and the salmon. For dessert, I had an apple tart that I would not be able to distinguish from a slice of apple pie at any diner and my wife had a chocolate mousse cake that was surrounded by a wax paper wrapper – I have seen these at some dessert places in the city so I wonde

I had had a very long day. My girlfriend and I had decided to go someplace we’d never been. We happened along Savoy and sat for dinner around 7:30 on this particular Sunday evening. We were led upstairs to a quaint corner table overlooking the intersection below. We ordered a hearty meal as to repress the stresses of the day. I usually never order a soup as an app but took the chance and was won over by the cream of garlic and pork sausage. Plenty of flavor and was paired well with a glass of white wine by the manager. The lady had delightful watercress, strawberries and pork belly, an refreshingly interesting combination. We followed that with the house recommended duck and the suckling pig. Both entrees were superb and finished off with bottle of red (that the restaurant owners produce or own themselves). I so very pleased with the service, the descriptions, and the food that I have made the effort to go back several times since. Keep up the good work.

Our interest in historic places and great steak took us to Frankie and Johnnie’s over on 37th Street for an early dinner. Housed in John Barrymore’s former brownstone, J & F’s offers some fine food, albeit for a price. Started with one of the day’s specials, a tomato arugula and fresh mozzarella salad that was expertly done. We really wanted to try the risotto w/porcini mushroom and asparagus, but didn’t want to fill up on oversized servings of pasta . Our waiter graciously offered to have the dish split between the two of us as an appetizer – it was just the right size and delicious. We both opted for the surf (HUGE lobster tail) and turf (filet mignon) with a few sides. The steak was done exactly right, just melted in your mouth. Couldn’t get over the size of that lobster tail – sweet and firm and oh so tasty. Waitstaff was attentive without being overbearing or making us feel we needed to hurry; they were extremely professional and accommodating. It’s a typical steakhouse atmosphere

We were greated by a smiling face, seated within minutes of or reservation. The noise level was greatfinally a place where we could hear each other. The menu gave us lots of choices, our server explained the menu, there seemed to be a lot of great things to choose from.We decided on the four course tasting and paired it with wines,GREAT WAY TO GO!I started with Smoked trout, blew me away, then I had the Califlower peppered noodles, and pork dish for the main, one was better than the next!!It was our anniverary so we indulged in some sinful deserts, they were thoughtfull and brought it with a candle,we felt like we were with family, can’t wait to go back!!
