Where is the Best Fireside Dining in Dallas, Texas?

Great good, service at the level you’d expect from a high-end restaurant, crowded, and noisy. We went there for the first time yesterday on a Saturday evening. Beginning with the complementary caviar appetizer, proceeding through excellent steaks and the sea bass special, and ending with beignet dessert, all of the food was outstanding. Wait staff were attentive and cordial. We (my wife and I both) were distracted by the extreme crowding, though. There were far too many tables packed together. No one, including waiters, could maneuver between chairs without kicking and bumping them constantly, and there were only a few places where anyone could even maneuver through at all. It was noisy on a weekend evening, and the prices were what you would anticipate… without any alcoholic drinks, our meals together ran $145 with tips. Good place, but know what you’re getting into.

I grew up eating Southern cuisine in Mississippi, and I have enjoyed Ms. Mary’s on several visits, usually during the lunch hour. Unfortunately, as of this writing (08/31/07) things seem to have changed. The service is nothing special now — pretty much like what you’ll find in a lot of places with waitstaff on automatic pilot. The meatloaf was a little dry and somewhat tasteless with some kind of tomato concoction slopped on it. The vegetables (green beans and yellow squash) tasted as though little effort or real seasoning had been added, and the corn bread tasted almost sour. The peach cobbler was a good as ever, though. Even the decor has changed somewhat with an overemphasis on cheap-looking art depicting stereotypical, or at the very least, done-to-death images of Africans or African Americam jazz musicians. All traces of the family history that had previously been depicted or hinted at seemed to be gone. In a nutshell, today’s meal did not taste like good Southern cooking, the di

I went to Social House this past Saturday and had a great time. A friend and I arrived at around midnight and were surprised to find that the bar was extremely crowded, since I’ve heard that it’s usually dead in there since it’s fairly new. Upstairs smelled too smoky for my taste so we went downstairs to the pub area where it was even more crowded with what seems like older SMU students and SMU grads. If that is not your scene, then I wouldn’t recommend this place. Since I belong to the latter category, I didn’t mind and had a great time. They played a mix of fun 80’s music and some newer stuff, which was a nice change from the trance stuff they play at other “hip” hang outs. Overall it was a good experience and I’ll definitely be back. The drinks were ok (I’m a simple vodka-tonic drinker myself) but my one gripe is about the bartender. I ordered a vodka and redbull for a friend expecting well vodka, and was charged $12 a drink for Skyy. Since I’m usually laid-back, I said nothing and

My wife and I have been here 3 times and each time we’ve ordered something different. We’ve ordered everything from Stew to Steak to Seafood and each meal has been consistently good. They have a good selection of beers, as well as wine. Make sure to try the soda bread that they bring to the table. On two visits we were seated downstairs in the dining room off of the bar. The wood burning fireplace is always burning on cold nights, which gives off a great smell and comfortable feel. On a recent visit, we were seated upstairs overlooking Lincoln Ave. This dining room has more of a fine dining feel. Service has always been excellent. Pros + Great Service, Food, ParkingCons – None

Okay, so my experience was quite different from what I’ve read and I’m glad that I moseyed in this place without researching it first. My 2 lady friends and I needed something to eat before a concert…
