Where is the Best Fireside Dining in Charlotte, North Carolina?
Me and my boyfriend ate there this past weekend and the food was fantastic. I loved the lay out of a old house turned into a fine dining resturant. Everyone was very nice but our waiter was to overbearing. Who doesn’t like great sevice but who wants your waiter to be apart of your evening together? The resturant was very warm inside also. I know its fall and we have chilly nights but if its 60 degrees outside why must the heat be on 80? That made it very hard to enjoy our dinner. We asked for our food to go so we could enjoy it at home alone. If you’re looking for a romantic place to go eat, don’t eat at the Fig Tree unless you want your waiter there with you!Pros + Great food and wine listCons – To hot to enjoy dinner and wasn’t crowded. Overbearing wait staff
The Canjun Queen is set in an old house and the atmoshpere does take you to another place. The tables are somewhat close so you are eating with strangers right next to you and in your conversation. The server was not able to fit inbetween the tables to the left or right of ours and had to serve from behind me, so initamcy is not available. The food was freshly prepared, but the Chef does not need to be so cautious with using salt and pepper as everything did lean to the bland side. One real critique I feel would be the Gumbo. Gumbo should be rich and thick with depth, this Gumbo was very thin and tomato-boullion like. It was fresh tasting but not the deep, rich taste I know Gumbo should be. The Shrimp and Grits were good but Creole sauce was tastelss. Despite the food being less than what expected, my wife and I liked this place and will return.Pros + The restaurant building is interesting; food is freshly madeCons – Food is bland, not at all what execpted for a Cajun place
In my opinion, Firebirds has the best burger in Charlotte. Maybe anywhere. But the key phrase is “in my opinion”. It also makes a difference whether cost is an issue or not. I’ve read reviews that claim Hardees or Backyard Burgers is the best. Well, for the price, yes they beat something like Wendys or McDonalds, but that’s a whole different category. (In which case Five Guys takes that prize!). But without considering cost, I have to say that the cheeseburgers I’ve had at Firebirds are second to none. I can’t make one as good on MY OWN grill. For a start, because they grind their own beef, they don’t have to conform to those stupid NC regulations that prohibit you having your burger cooked medium rare. But for whatever reason, the end result is superb, and worth the $8.95 . One negative though…their fries, in my opinion are perhaps the WORST I’ve had…they’re those horrible clunky steak-fries. (I almost feel like going in with my own bag of fries from Five Guys!! ) But
