I had initially heard of Cafe Nuovo because of the desserts. Later, I would hear other things. After finally going a few times, pretty much everything I heard was confirmed. Nuovo is a notorious haunt for Waterfire-zombies and businessmen getting blasted. While I didn’t witness any zombies on my trips, the business crowd was in full force. Unfortunately for Nuovo, the drunken business crowd causes a lot of noise during peak hours that undoubtedly annoy other patrons. It certainly annoyed me. The restaurant’s ambiance is very nice. I loved the high-backed chairs. The lighting is romantic. And tables are perfectly dressed. It had a casual trendiness that wasn’t overpowering, just… chic. Service is beyond fast. Wait staff is a well-oiled machine with few hiccups. The wine list is very good, but expensive for no reason. Some barely adequate vintages carried insane prices. The menu is good. I liked the play of certain styles and ingredients, but the success of that play is spotty. Some As
Zebra’s is a great place to go for either a romantic night out or to celebrate with friends or family. There is a nice lounge area with comfy chairs and attentive cocktail waitresses at you walk in, and I often show up an hour or so before I plan to eat to just ahng out and have a drink with my friends. The dining area is small, but very comfy and the art on the walls creates a fun, eclectic but classy ambiance. The service has always been outstanding, and I believe many of the staff have worked there for quite a while (in fact, I have had the same server ot my table each of the last 2-3 times my family has eaten there during the Christmas season). The food is prepared superbly (medium actually has some pink still showing, medium-rare is not charred, etc) and I have always enjoyed the variety of ingredients found in their various dishes. Additionally, there is a sushi bar available, but I have not tried it to-date. Overall, this is a great restaurant, in the mold of those in Bo
Al Forno is a difficult place to review. The hype is so thick that you could almost eat it instead of the food. After reading others? horror stories, and experiencing a little of it myself, I?m hesitant to give a good review, but since I can only go on myself, I must. It is one of Rhode Island?s best restaurants and certainly worthy of much hype. Julia Child ate here every time she was in the area, and I can certainly understand why she did so. The food is stellar. House specialties, such as Clams Al Forno and the grilled pizza margarita, are delectable. Dishes are served simple and perfectly cooked. Sometimes, too simple. The bruschetta costs a fair amount and is TRUE bruschetta, namely, toast. As far as I?m concerned, their baked pasta with five cheeses is the only dish you should ever get. But, if you must deviate, the oven roasted lemon chicken breast is a treat for the mouth. Delicate, tender, slightly tangy, it?s just ab-fab. Their specials are almost always brilliant and delicio
