Where is the Best Fine Dining in Minneapolis, Minnesota?
I have been going to Jax Cafe in Beautiful Nordeast Minneapolis since 1965. Over the years I have had club and business meetings, and business and personal lunches/dinners/brunches at Jax. I had my retirement party in the Cosmopolitan Room in 2002 with 150 guests. My church celebrated our 90th Anniversary with a dinner for 255 happy guests. I continue to see past business associates, who I previously introduced to Jax, coming in to entertain their current business contacts and to enjoy their own personal and family celebrations. The pianist plays my favorite song, “My Way” by Frank Sinatra. That’s what I always receive at Jax is, “My Way”. The food is of the highest quality, the service is excellent and friendly, and the managerial staff is always congenial and professional.
One of the finest food experiences in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area. Unfortunately, the wait staff is average to poor. A real solution is that after you enjoy some of the best food you will ever have, if the waiter/waitress is poor, give them a lousy tip and tell them why. Then tell the hostess the same. A very fun and relaxing evening celebrating a birthday during the week. Very attentive, friendly, knowlegeable, but not annoying waiter who treated us with a great experience-ask for Chad’s area.The food was what they’re known for; seafood; with the ahi tuna filling up two of us that had split it, the shrimp cocktail was a bit dry but great with the cocktail sauce. Drinks were good size but expensive.Chad brought out a huge baked alaska with pumpkin ice cream for the b-day treat and it was delicious.The hostesses, waiters, helpers were charming us from the minute we stepped into the restaurant. It was a special eating event. I was disappointed that there wasn’t alot of diners and hope that isn’t a bad sign especially since Manny’s left.Pros + parking in ramp is easy, the staff treats you very well, seafood was perfect, romantic boothsCons – hign prices on food and drinks, downtown taxes, not a lot of energy during the week
The decor is absolutely decadent. I ordered a grilled cheese with a bowl of soup. The cream soup was outstanding. However, the grilled cheese left something to be desired, like melting. I went with some business associates on a Tuesday night. We didn’t have reservations but they weren’t busy and could easily accomodate us. Our server was very good. She managed to be there when we needed her but she was not intrusive. The food was good but not great. Starters were well received. The mushroom rissotto is enough to get me back. Two of us at the table ordered the rissotto and after the first bite neither said much until the plate was empty. Two others had theScallop Starter and raved which prompted me to order it as my entree. Things went a little wrong after that. My scallops could have been warmer but I didn’t send them back. One person at the table stated there was so much going on with his walleye dish that he wasn’t sure he ever tasted the walleye or could say for certain that it was walleye on the plate.
