Where is the Best Fine Dining in Austin, Texas?
What a surprise this Lake Travis restaurant was – great food, views, and ambience! That is a unique combination. We drove out the first time along the road past Volente to the Lime Creek Marina and took the marina lift down past the waterfall to this charming cafe hanging over the lake. The mahogany plank flooring, teak tables and chairs, and metal sculptures set the stage for a varied menu. We sampled four dishes $13 to 23 all with yummy sides included. The Snapper Louisiane had a Cajun cream sauce over the crawfish/shrimp.The NY Strip was 10 oz of tender steak covered with blue cheese, scallions, and candied pecans. The Jamaican jerked chicken breast and shrimp stuffed with jack cheese and jalapenos rounded out the entrees. These in addition to the appetizers, wine and drinks made this a must return experience. Our second visit was by boat using convenient free slip by the restaurant. This time we concentrated more on the salads and desserts. Favorites were the Lake Travis Summe
We went on Mother’s Day & service was awful. We were seated upstairs & our poor server was friendly, but he must have had too many tables assigned to him. Did like the fact that the upstairs was much quieter than the main restaurant. My husband likes to come at lunch, the lunch prices are much more reasonable.Best rolls in town. Mother & I ate 2, lost count on my husband!Food was quite tasty. Mother had the Mele e Speck salad with apples, Gorgonzola, Walnuts and bacon in , apple cider vinaigrette.I had the fixed price menu with ravioli stuffed with braised veal, ricotta and spinach in fresh sage butter with lemon and pine nuts (outstanding), $11Chicken breast stuffed with sun dried tomato pesto (almost undetectable, over grilled asparagus (one spear), goat cheese and roasted potato torta with black truffle cream – DELISH! $26.Husband had Cacciucco – a stew of shrimp, scallops, fresh fish, calamari and mussels saut?ed with red chili, spring onions and roasted to
This is an excellent restaurant to take your significant other or your loved one for fine dining. It has dim lighting, an intimate setting?.the ambiance perfect. The cuisine along with the presentation of it all is exquisite. Nothing on the menu will leave you disappointed; even the water they serve is fantastic?.it?s the best I?ve ever had. The only downside to the restaurant is the service. Please understand my critique is solely based on one that existed from dining in a large group. I should also mention that I frequent fine restaurants on the regular, so I have an idea of what to expect. I feel that a restaurant of this price and caliber, the service could have been much swifter and taken to the next level. There was about a 30-minute lag in between courses, crumbs were never cleared from the table, and the piece de resistance was when the food to be taken home was presented in a plastic white grocery bag. Seeing that was comparable to topping off a hot fudge sundae with a pickl
Thistle was the perfect place on the way back from the lake. I took my 2 screaming kids in there and they greeted us with open arms and great service. My kids ordered the shrimp wraps which they loved and my wife and i ordered the meatloaf and pizza. everything was great nothing bad to say about the place. PS try the cookies and fries , best in austin and that’s a bold statement.
