When I get home late from work, I usually take the 21/22 bus. On the horizon as I walk to my up-and-coming trendy college “hood,” I see El Chilito. It isn’t normal that I get a warm fuzzy feeling for a small shack with funny lights, but for some reason it happens with El Chilito.I walk up and either get the carne guisada tacos, which I usually have to repeat a couple times because I have a spanish accent. They are fabulous. I even tried the white rice and black beans, and it just completes me. The good thing is that sometimes when I long for breakfast food from home, I can get a chorizo & egg plate even after work.El Chilito has a special place in my heart..not only because there are actual Mexicans cooking, but I can watch them cook, and feel pride that my people have a job in this crazy city. So, in the end, I recommend this place for the quick fix, really laid-back night, or just really lazy night.Oh, and get the lemonade, they try to be cute and call it “leh-moh-nada.” Oh you gu

This is the place to get fresh food. It’s not on a conveyer belt waiting for you to come and get it. They wait until you get there, find out what you want and fix it the way you want it. This is truly a Texas tradition that Texans can be proud of. The secret is…there are thousands of them, not just in Austin. This Houstonite is not sure why they didn’t make the list there!!!Pros + Made to order.Cons – Sometimes the wait.

I’m sure glad I found WALLY’s and know that there are lot’s of (not too picky) people who would at least appreciate it for what they have and HOW they have it. Great price and better than average I’d say! Although I too like DQ, they’ve gone too mainstream for me now, and well, Wally’s Burger Express took me back to what use to be a the 1970’s version of DQ; not a plug just a fact in my humble opinion. Not only were they quickest I’ve seen in a long time, but Freshly HOT and mighty good for the price. Can’t beat it and what I like is that its a hidden away place that’s tucked up close to my area if I need a late night AMERICAN BURGER! Yummy… as fattening as it sounds – it’s a sheer pleasure to chomp down and gulp it up! Sad as that may sound. ONE LAST THING: they do have a quirkiness to their atmosphere & help – which was fine by me. They’re kids running it as well as it should as long as they’r
