Where is the Best Family-Friendly Dining in Portland, Oregon?
We’ve been coming here a couple of times each week since we moved to Portland and read about their soups and salad bar in an Oregonian review. They have one of the few salad bars in town and they make everything fresh, including their own unique dressings (they have Garlic Asiago instead of everyone else’s blue cheese, an Apple Dijon Vinaigrette and a wonderful oil-free Cucumber Ginger VInaigrette unlike any other dressing I have ever had, plus several others). The Salad Bar is all-you-can-eat, but the soups are served by the cup or bowl, and although many people come here for the sour cream rich Hungarian Mushroom Soup, they always have several vegan, gluten-free soups, the most amazing being the Coconut Cauliflower Curry. If you want “fast” food, you don’t even have to wait for your server to take your order–just head for the soup and salad bar, which includes house-made corn muffins, multi-grain rolls, croutons & crackers and even rice cakes for people who can’t eat gluten (or
They take reservations; when I asked to reserve a quiet booth for 4, I got it.Friendly staff; both waitress and hostess; they even had a good sense of humor.Quick service; hostess, kitchen and waitress.Lots of choices of food.Food tasted great!Place is quiet; no loud music, screaming kids.Place very clean; even the bathrooms. They have a senior menu with several choices!
Still mourning the loss of Taqueria Nueve, I recently ventured into the new restaurant that took over its space. They serve New Orleans cuisine and it is damn good! Hooray! The plates (well, not exactly plates) are small (tapas style) and the food is served in big old coffee mugs. I know it sounds kind of weird, but they make it work. Everything I tried sang in my mouth. We had the jambalaya (with chicken, shrimp and sausage), the hanger steak (served with carmelized portobello fries) and the bibb lettuce salad (served with smoked tomatoes and a bacon vinagrette). Oh and because the plates were small enough and I wasn’t quite stuffed yet, the sweet potato/pecan pie (served with bourbon ice cream) for dessert. Lord have mercy, that food was good! So, although I will forever miss my octopus cocktail from TN, I’m not going to be sad anymore because a new food day has dawned with the opening of New Orleans inspired Tapalaya. Let the good times roll!BTW, since I first went, I’ve
I love this place. Feels like going home for dinner to the home you wish you had. We eat there 3 times a month and I’ve probably eaten 60 meals there. Everything on the menu is cooked to perfection and served at the right time. The various waiters we’ve had, except for one, have been just perfect additions to the place and our meals. I’d recommend everything on the menu. The hamburger is divine, the seafood salad is generous and tasty, all the specials are special. The only reason I’m not giving it 5 stars is the waitress we’ve had the last two times. Friendly but so friendly that she spent more time schmoozing with her dining buddies than attention to taking our order, serving our order and getting us the check. Plus, her size is such that if she’s schmoozing near you you feel cramped.Pros + Anything you orderCons – Servers are so friendly with certain diners that you may get lost in the shuffle
Atomic pizza. The prices are cheaper than my spot down the street…sorry normal spot but i need the whole pie tonight. The crust was amazing, a bit more mealy than the wannabes and more crisp than the wannabes and more taste than the wannabes. The toppings are fresh tasting, even the peperoni tasted halfway between normal and uncured. The cheese, I know this taste…it’s called good… If your planning on opening a pizza place or saying other local favs are good, try here first for a slice or a pie, then look me in the eye and tell me it didn’t put the others to shame; that’s right, you can’t! The fact there isn’t a line out the door is shocking, but they are still “new.” I also ordered a pizza beyond the regular peperoni. The garlic sauce with chicken was insane!Thank you atomic, thank you for making me not continue to suffer through the established local chains, and letting me enjoy what i treat myself with once a week, and that is a delicious pizza.
