Where is the Best Family-Friendly Dining in Portland, Oregon?

My sister, her two children and I were all starving one week night, roaming up and down all of 23rd. Unfortunately every place we tried was “bar only” after 9pm so we luckily stumbled across Laurelwood. They were not only kid friendly but welcomed us in at a late hour without trying to hurry us out like some others. I just had a basic burger and fries but have to say it was outstanding as was the home brewed beer. Very cozy environment (old house turned into restaurant/bar) and nice service gave us all a good impression and ensured we will be coming back soon. Pros + food, service, atmosphere, hours, kid friendlyCons – none

As it’s only a couple blocks from our home, we’ve been eating there regularly for three plus years. The food is solid, and the service usually good. Is it the greatest breakfast place? no. If you’re looking for a breakfast “event”, I wouldn’t choose it. But when we want a straight forward breakfast at an ok price, it’s our top choice. We almost never go to Tin Shed because by the time the food arrives, I’ve written a novel and eaten someone’s child. Helser’s is ready and willing to serve half portions of most anything and will make you most anything you ask for. Best is before 9 am, especially during the week, when Helser’s serves a limited menu of sane portions for a modest price.Pros + nice people, good location, amazing baconCons – noisy, busy on weekends

Wow, funny when I went to look at reviews for Laurelwoods new location up the street from 40th, I saw a strange consitancy. People either gave them 4 or 5 stars or 1 star?!? Maybe they’re (Laurelwood that is) a little like Neil Diamond, you either love’m or hate’m?!?!?!? Being fair……most 4 or 5 star reviews word the good and bad things, but apperenttly all one star reviews are extremelly one track minded?!? So, after reading most of these reviews, I decided to go myself. I decided to try and take all things into account to make my decision for rating these guys. First-service,Second-quality on products, Third-enviornment to consume products. I will give each criteria possible 5 out of 5 stars thaen average my rating over the three criteria. This is how I think you’d make a fair rating, right?!?!? First, I parked in the parking lot in back. I felt actually lucky to get a parking spot on a Friday evening after I walked in the front door. Wow…..this place was packed! If people wer

No more tableside cooking: Used to be five stars now four stars. New chef and no tableside cooking is a big change for us. The food is still very good and John Louie is the best waiter in Portland. I hope they bring back the tableside service. That is a big problem for us.Stu CookPros + best waiter in portland is John LouieCons – no more tableside cooking
