Where is the Best Family-Friendly Dining in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania?
In a city that has the disease of Eat n Park killing off any good breakfast establishment, it’s nice to know that Pamela’s has tucked itself into the one place the hambeasts don’t want to go–The Strip. Pamela’s has very nice breakfast offerings with tasty pancakes and they seem to have most of you standard breakfast fare down well. HOWEVER, the coffee is without a doubt the most miserable swill that I’ve ever endured. I’m not sure what sawdust they’re putting into the coffee pots, but it is BAD. I highly recommend going around the corner to any of the local roasters and picking up a cup before heading to Pamela’s. Once you’ve gotten that, you’ll be in good shape.The dining room is light and pleasant and there are lots of goofy photos and memorabilia from the 50’s and 60’s to look at while you eat. Go early on a Saturday morning as they are typically quite busy being the best spot for breakfast in the strip. Also, don’t forget, credit cards aren’t accepted so bring some cas
Sunday, 8/24/08, visited Rodneys and we sat on the deck. The inside was busy but on the deck it was just the two of us. Ordered a shimp cocktail while we decided if we just wanted salads or dinner. The shimp Cocktail came in a small soup/salad bowl, a piece of lettuce was used to line the bottom of the bowl upon which was placed a pile of crushed ice. On top of the the crushed ice was a small plastic cup of cocktail sauce. Buried in ice were FOUR shimp. Why they were served in crushed ice in a bowl instead of hanging on a cocktail glass, I dont know why it was presented like this. The cost was 11.95. Unbelieveable. We did pull the shimp from the ice and eat them, although we should have just sent it back. We voiced our displeasure to the waitress and the hostess. The hostess wanted to know who our server was…and we thought that might get some action, but it didnt. The server, Julie I think, could care less, said there was nothing she could do, didnt get a manager, and then told us th
I usually order to go. Ate there once, wasn’t very impressed. However, I always order the shrimp fried rice to go which is incredibly delicious and the shrimp are jumbo sized! I love it. I agree with a previous reviewer that the atmosphere at the bar leaves something to be desired. I actually stopped getting take out there for quite a while because I found one of the bartenders to be utterly obnoxious, like he’d rather be anywhere else but there. He should’ve been because he certainly didn’t belong in the service industry. But that shrimp fried rice kept calling me back! Take out is definitely the way to go.
