Where is the Best Family-Friendly Dining in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania?
I’ve been to Indian restaurants all over the US and Tamarind is up there with the best of them. It’s my understanding that the young Indian guys who own and run it are a bunch of IT professionals who pooled their resources to hire a top-quality chef from India and set up this little place. The food is fresh and authentic and when the chef is doing his own thing on the lunch buffet, unrestricted by the good but more conventional dinner menu, it is often down-right inspired. (His pumpkin curry and vegetable biryani are amazing). Don’t let the location (out in a strip mall in the Greentree suburbs) keep you from trying this place. I read the other reviews and frnkly I was appalled at the negative remarks that were made by others. I have never been there when the place was dirty or when the managment was nasty to the waitresses. We have always had good food, great service and a good time overall at Ritters. If it was bad as the others say would it still be around. Hell no! I highly recommend this place to all my friends and family. The Scene A large, comfortable room with high ceilings and huge demi-lune chandeliers is cloaked in colors of white, tan, and yellow with large faux marble columns. There is a small bar on your right as you enter, and tables inside and on a patio. Service is surprisingly fast, and the waitstaff is friendly. The FoodThe classic Italian menu centers on a wood-fired oven and grill, as well as pastas and salads. The antipasto del casa with fried calamari, mushroom ravioli al forno and shrimp canneloni easily serves three or four as a starter. The pizzas have a thick crust, while the flatbreads are rolled out to a cracker depth. Toppings range from the simple margherita to an unusual shrimp scampi flatbread with tomato, carmelized onion, and bacon. Try the house specialty gorgonzola crusted strip and the signature pasta bravo with penne, grilled chicken, mushrooms and a roasted red pepper sauce.
