Where is the Best Family-Friendly Dining in Austin, Texas?

We always like the LOCAL recommendations for eating……….interestingly enough, it was not our hotel Valet, but he was a young man living in Austin, his whole life. We followed his suggestion, and were not disappointed!! Pecan crusted catfish to die for!!! Deep fried asparagus…..only in Texas!!! It was very good, but back to our Med diet!!! A Brownie, chocolate sauce,…

We went to this Austin institution based on recommendations from the locals. We went at 11:45 am on Firday. We beat the crowd! The Hippie Chick was deserving of all the positive comments. The veggies were wonderful and fresh and the addition of the thai chicken breast made it filling. We were very impressed with the salad dressings. I had the jalapeno lime dressing which had a kick. The pesto ranch was garlicky with the right texture. The jalapeno corn chowder was the soup of the day. Spicy and delicious. My mom ordered the fresh turkey sandwich. It was impressive. It was not the “rolled turkey” pressed meat that most restaurants serve. This was “pulled turkey” that was fresh roasted. We ordered some frings for our sons. The fries were so-so but the onion rings were battered perfectly and you could taste the onions. Just about the best rings I’ve had in Austin. The boys who ordered burgers were not really impressed with them. They went with a plain cheeseburger. I tri

Plucker’s is an awesome place to watch the game! They have a ton of TV’s everywhere, it’s impossible to sit somewhere where you can’t see one. They have ample seating, and even more seating outside on their porch/deck with misting fans. They have awesome Fried Pickles and they will go above and beyond to make sure you are happy. They got my order wrong once and went above and beyond to correct it. They even gave us our appetizer for free after correcting the problem! I highly recommend!Pros + Lots of TV’s Cons – ?

My wife and I went to Chuy’s but the wait was too long and we ended up across the parking lot at Joe’s. There’s a very impressive shark (“Seavo”) hanging from the ceiling, complete with Texas longhorns. It’s a similar casual feel to Chuy’s. My wife ordered a crab cake sandwich and I ordered the crawfish etouffe. Both were very good, though not too filling. We saw someone’s crab dip and ordered that, as well. I found the t-shirts a bit family un-friendly and tacky. Among the more memorable were ones that said “Bite Me!” and another with a word that Citysearch won’t let me type into this review (It’s slang for a male reproductive organ.) It’s a shame you have to be assaulted with sexual double-entendres at what’s supposed to be a family restaurant. The “happy birthday” singing was a little obnoxious, but our young waiter was very good, so no complaints there.Pros + Tastes greatCons – Less filling

Everything you’d expect from a slightly hole-in-the-wall-ish type cajun/creole restaurant. Oysters and shrimp taste fresh, whether served in an entree or fried for a poboy. Salads are refreshingly green – no boring iceberg here! The fried catfish is perfect – light, crispy batter and flaky fillet. One entree offers the catfish topped with crawfish etouffee…. indulgently delicious. My husband can’t stop ordering the Troy’s Favorite Lunch, which is a muffaletta with a side of gumbo. Tasty appetizers and desserts, too – try the spinach dip and whatever pies are fresh that day. Service can be a little slow when things are busy, but the staff are always friendly and helpful. If you’re looking for a refreshing non-alcoholic beverage, try the “mojito” soda. Pros + Fair prices, consistently good food, unpretentious serviceCons – Parking can be a little competitive, since there’s a Gold’s Gym in the same strip mall
