Where is the Best Dive Bar in Austin, Texas?
This is a fun bar to sit outside and feel like you’re somewhere out in the Texas Hill Country. It has a relaxed icehouse feel, but it’s full of rock ‘n rollers instead of bikers. Convenient location across from El Arroyo makes it a good first stop while you’re on your way into town for a night of fun.
So the prices of Lonestar pitchers have gone up to $5.80, but who’s gonna cry about 30 cents? The bartenders are awesome and don’t complain when you ask them for quarters repeatedly. They have two pool tables for 50 cents a game.. And they have hands down one of the best jukeboxes in town. Just a word of warning though, the Otis Redding is mislabeled, if you try to play Sittin On The Dock Of The Bay, you will end up playing Tramp, a song which has grown on me because of that common mistake. It’s a quirky, fun place, and there are a couple of picnic tables outside for those of us who enjoy a few carcinogens with our ice cold beer. If you like to kick back, drink some cold beer with some cool people, head on over.
I’m reading the reviews of this bar and I would discourage anyone from going there. I have been a “regular ” for a few years. In regular I mean, when I walk in, the bartender is making my favorite drink before I get to the bar. I am addicted to playing the trivia games and they supply the console to take to your table. Unfortunatley they have some ringers in there like “BRG” or “DAVID” who are MENSA members and I have no chance of winning unless they get interrupted during a session to sing. I’m a none smoker and they strictly enforce the no smoking rule, but provide tables and chairs right outside to hang out and smoke. So I actually leave the place not smelling like an ashtray. As I said, I am a regular, the KJ knows my name, and I tip, but I can expect that I will be waiting my turn to sing again as they don’t play favorites. Just 4 nights ago a patron offered Rob the KJ about 8 bucks to sing the last song of the night.. I was up to sing and I heard Rob telling the guy that he would
I am new to this City Search thing, but me and the band passed through Austin on tour and I wanted to let other musicians and travelers who may not be familiar with Austin where to go eat and drink. The locals already flock to this place, but we were lucky enough to stumble (literally) upon it. The rest of 6th Street pretty much sacks, but this place is worth passing through to get to. In a nutshell: Big bar, cool velvet paintings, nice patio ( you have to smoke outside in Austin), TWO kitchens, hot and really nice bartenders, CHEAP drinks, fast service, tons of beers to choose from. Your money goes a long way here, and the Chipotle Bacon burger is not to be missed. I wish they did not have to close at 2am, but they told me they open everyday before noon, so I guess that is long enough. I will be back, and you should not miss this place when in Austin.
