I had saved trying Havana Grill for a day when I really, really, really needed the comforts of home. When I went inside, the food looked pretty sketchy because it was arrayed on the front counter under heat lamps, so instead of picadillo or ropa vieja I decided to go with a Cuban sandwich. I’m glad I did, because the sandwich was mediocre, and wouldn’t you rather have a mediocre sandwich than a disappointing plateful of one of your favorite comfort foods?Especially disappointing was the bread. I had been planning on using this place as a bread source (Cuban bread is only good for a day), so that was a real bummer. In fact, the bread was so textureless and boring that it ruined the whole sandwich for me. Only by pulling at the edges of the crust could I get a morsel or two that had any character at all. The roast pork was grim, and worse, it was cut thick, so it was also leathery. The ham was nothing special. The sandwich maker was stingy with the pickles. There’s a sign inside t

After 10+ visits to St Jacques, I felt I had to let others know about it. This restaurant is an oasis where one is transformed from North Raleigh to the South of France. Owners Lil & Lori are the most accommodating restauranteurs I have seen anywhere, truly believing that their customer is their guest and that the guest’s experience during the few hours in their restaurant is the most important thing there is. If anyone on this earth was born to be a Maitre d’, it is Lil. Ask him to describe the evening’s dinner selections and your mouth will be watering at each description! This is great but wouldn’t be enough if the food didn’t live up to the service. Luckily it does. Chef Aaron Whittington and his small kitchen staff have really mastered the intracacies of the finest French dining experience. Nothing is ever loaded with heavy sauces ( though many of the dishes are quite rich ) and many of the items have a simple elegance that needs to be tasted to be understood. At last night’s Alsa

I wouldn’t recommend this place for intimate dinners. The space definitely seem to be catered towards large groups. The menu is so unique …

Sweet Loralee Pastries is the best place in the trangle for baked goods and their service is exceptional. All of the baked goods that I have bought at Sweet Loralee Pastries over the years have been fabulous. Sweet Loralee Pastries makes a Grand Marn…ier cake that is to die for i recommend you try that one first. I often bring Sweet Loralee Pastries to school where I work and everyone wants to get the name and number of the bakery who made that cake, pie, or pastry they are eating. I love their chocolate mousse cake, apricot poppy seed cake, chocolate chocolate brownies, and the chocolate cake made with maple syrup is heavenly. What is great about Sweet Loralee’s pastries is, all of their baked goods are made with real cream and real butter. I never eat bake goods any more from a supermarket because they are filled with vegetable shorten “Yuk”. If you want high quality bake goods made from real ingredients I highly recommend you go to Sweet loralee’s. Robin Read MorePros + Best c
