Where is the Best Dessert in Portland, Oregon?

Living nearby, I had often walked past Via Delizia and in my mind dismissed the idea of patronizing it because it looked like it would be an expensive, trendy rip off suitable for the pretentiously inclined Pearl District. One day recently with a friend we went there for coffee. I had recently heard that the coffee was good.We had lattes and then later breakfast. The lattes are the best I’ve come across! The service is the best I’ve ever encountered in Portland, measuring up favorably to good service elsewhere as well. The owner, Alex, strives extra diligently for exceptional service and has trained his staff to perfection! They have a very tasty homemade coffeecake to go with one’s coffee. The breakfast omelets are good; and my friends pasta dish was good. The gelatos are excellent.

Once there, we noticed the place was fairly empty and yet no one greeted us as we came in, we stood around for a minute and finally seated ourselves. Someone came over and started to hand out menus. We let him know we were just getting dessert, in case there was a separate menu. He gave us a dirty look, took the menus back and disappeared into the kitchen. 10 minutes later the bartender came over to take our order. We were very upset because we hadn?t even seen the menu! She then brought back the same menus the busboy had brought out in the beginning. That?s when I noticed that all she was wearing was spandex. Her cleavage was showing way too much and her shirt was low-cut in the back, showing off a tattoo and every time she bent over it was not a pretty picture. We ordered one Velvet Elvis, which was pretty good; one Creme Brule, which was good but too small, I could only take 4 or 5 bites before it was gone, and it was also in a weird-shaped bowl, which kept tilting over unless I hel

I’m baffled by some of the negative comments. I wasn’t going to review this place (its busy enough as it is, so I wanted to keep it as “secret” as possible), but now I feel compelled to do so. THIS PLACE IS FANTASTIC! I don’t go often, as its a little above my budget, but I try to go at least once every month or two because the food is incredible. The gnocci is to die for (nothing close to a ‘donut’–come on for real?!) The chicken is so tasty and falls off the bone. We’ve ordered every special they’ve offered – loved them all. The various bruschettas are mouth watering. And Seth knows his wine! I really like Seth and Chantal – they are very nice, very real people. Chantal is not as engaging as Seth, but still friendly in a quieter way. And they are definitely NOT pretentious. I have to admit, on my first visit there, the place was busy and the service wasn’t uber attentive or outwardly friendly. But I came back for the food and so glad I did, because the service only impr

Still mourning the loss of Taqueria Nueve, I recently ventured into the new restaurant that took over its space. They serve New Orleans cuisine and it is damn good! Hooray! The plates (well, not exactly plates) are small (tapas style) and the food is served in big old coffee mugs. I know it sounds kind of weird, but they make it work. Everything I tried sang in my mouth. We had the jambalaya (with chicken, shrimp and sausage), the hanger steak (served with carmelized portobello fries) and the bibb lettuce salad (served with smoked tomatoes and a bacon vinagrette). Oh and because the plates were small enough and I wasn’t quite stuffed yet, the sweet potato/pecan pie (served with bourbon ice cream) for dessert. Lord have mercy, that food was good! So, although I will forever miss my octopus cocktail from TN, I’m not going to be sad anymore because a new food day has dawned with the opening of New Orleans inspired Tapalaya. Let the good times roll!BTW, since I first went, I’ve

No one can touch them on desserts (Maybe ClaimJumper’s) They have nice outdoor seating next to a garden, but the street is so close you would think that a car would fly through the privacy hedge. I’d go to the Portland one just so I would feel safe walking my wife to the car.Pros + Amazing Food & DessertCons – Poor Location
