Where is the Best Deli in Chicago, Illinois?
I work a couple of blocks from The Bagel and don’t go there nearly enough. Their ruben is to die for, the salads are huge and like I said in the title…best fries ever. The only downside is that it sometimes overrun by yuppies with 10k screaming kids, but if you don’t arrive right at noon that’s rarely a problem. It may seem a bit pricey but it’s well worth the money
I am lucky enough to live across the street from Bari. That explains why I eat it on average of three times a week. I love their Italian subs, but I also like getting the meat from their butcher shop. The bread is from D’Amato’s Bakery located right next door. The guys behind the counter are experts at making the sandwiches and butchering your favorite cuts of meat. The hot giardinara is what completes the Italian sub, but you won’t be disappointed with the meatball or sausage sandwiches, either. Bari has some of the best sausages in Chicago. I prefer the Barese sausage to the classical Italian sausage. The Barese is made with garlic, herbs, and sheep’s casing, while the Italian has fennel and pig casing. I recommend calling ahead with your order, or you could face a long (possible half hour) wait. Bari is one of the true gem’s of Chicago.Pros + Value, ServiceCons – Parking, Long Lines
If you want a taste of old time Chicago, head to Manny’s!Sandwiches, hot plate meals are the order of the day. Get in line and make up your mind quickly as the guys behind the counter are ready to serve. In a good way, you’ll get an earful if you don’t order the right way! So, I went with a roast beef sandwich that was so filled with roast beef, and stacked so high on the bread that I literally had to use a knife and fork to eat the sandwich!!! Outside of being embarrassed as I struggled with the mighty sandwich, the flavor is awesome.Take your sandwich after you pay and you are surrounded by a bunch of either Loop workers out for lunch(it’s worth the small drive) or old timers from around the neighborhood sitting shooting the breeze. There is nothing fancy about this place. You come for the sandwiches, the aura of an old time deli(the place has been around for over 50 years) and the opportunity to take half of that monster sandwich home with you.If you get a chance, head
This deli has so much variety and couldnt get over how good their dips were. I had a very nice conversation with the staff there and I felt so comfortable asking questions about all the foods they serve. Such nice people who have a passion for what they do. Do yourself a favor and check them out. This place is a gem for sure. Pros + Dips made fresh dailyCons – I wish it was next door to my house.
