Where is the Best Date Spot in Austin, Texas?
This is an excellent restaurant to take your significant other or your loved one for fine dining. It has dim lighting, an intimate setting?.the ambiance perfect. The cuisine along with the presentation of it all is exquisite. Nothing on the menu will leave you disappointed; even the water they serve is fantastic?.it?s the best I?ve ever had. The only downside to the restaurant is the service. Please understand my critique is solely based on one that existed from dining in a large group. I should also mention that I frequent fine restaurants on the regular, so I have an idea of what to expect. I feel that a restaurant of this price and caliber, the service could have been much swifter and taken to the next level. There was about a 30-minute lag in between courses, crumbs were never cleared from the table, and the piece de resistance was when the food to be taken home was presented in a plastic white grocery bag. Chez Nous is small but the staff is very attentive and the food is great. You do not find sweet breads on many menus but here they are wonderfully prepared. The escargot and the duck mousse pate are excellent. We did have to wait a bit but stood at the bar and had wine. I have been an Austinite for nearly 25 years and recently relocted to north Austin. A few weeks ago, in need of a margarita and a relaxing evening I was advised by a friend to revisit the Oasis(since I hadn’t in about 6 years). I was amazed at the job they did rebuilding after the fire and the size of the new building. Not only that, but the girls at the front desk were beaming and eager to tell me all about the new bulding and the owner’s future plans for a shopping center on the property. My waitress(I believe her name was Clair) was prompt and friendly and very knowledgable about the menu. Her suggestions turned out to be big crowd pleasers. The food was much better than I remembered! The queso, mango tilapia, and beef fajitas were a big hit. Overall, I was greatly impressed with the service, the food, and of course the view…from start to finish!Pros + Exellent Queso, Sweet Staff, and Amazing View!Cons – Not much spice to the “spicy” dishes
Online reservations, great, but when I called to confirm I spoke with a very unfriendly, young male host. That should have tipped me off to the level of service I should expect. Bar service took too long, waiter took even longer. Drinks during dinner took far too long and several were just plain forgotten! The menu is deceiving, it looks like a delicious assortment but it’s all rather bland. The food is not fresh, it’s thawed. From the ceviche to the mango salsa I was consistenly disappointed. I’ve been to several South American restaurants and this one is by far the least impressive. It’s as if Chili’s opened up a Latin chain, making it overpriced for what it is. If you want to add a little fun into a dining experience, try fondue! It helps that my colleague had been to other franchises, knew the scoop, and had suggestions for ordering. It’s a good menu selection; and while the portions aren’t huge, the pacing of them, the fondue prep, the dipping, the cooking time, helps the diner moderate consumption – give yourself and your party time to enjoy; you will be satisfied by the end of dessert. We started with the traditional gruyere cheese fondue dipping bread and veggies, followed by the salad, then the main entree (choice meats cooked shabu-shabu style by boiling in broth), and finally the chocolate/marshmallow/oreo cookie fondue. All in all, a satisfying meal, with friendly, helpful service. The chocolate fondue was divine! They offer specials for larger groups.
