I ha ve chosen to remove my post as my experience was too long ago and things could have changed. I believe that things should not be judged on past experiences.

The atmosphere and decor of this place surpasses all the other ethnic restaurants in the area!! I love the fish tank and authentic Oriental decoration. The service is pretty decent, and the food is really yummy! It’s a bit pricier than takeout places like S&I, but the pad thai is to die for. They also have some sort of special Thai milkshakes or smoothies or something that my friends all love. I believe they also serve alcohol here.

Ah, Border Cafe. I love that somehow, though I’m sure you are always swamped in the kitchen, that your proteins are always cooked perfectly – my food always arrives piping hot at the table, any the chicken always had a great sear on the outside, but is perfectly juicy on the inside. Next, don’t even get me started on the condiments/sauces! My favorites are the mango salsa – perfectly sweet mango cubes with just the right spicy/citrus-y bite to them, the perfectly sweet-spicy-garlicky chipotle lime glaze for the plantains, and the Cajun spiced marmalade, just to name a few. The tortilla chips here are not just a starter, they are a way of life – freshly fried throughout the day, they pair exceptionally well with the guacamole, which I would personally prefer a bit more on the chunky side, but that’s just me. As far as downsides – there are not a lot of exciting vegetarian options here. Most of the choices are heavy on cheese and light on creativity. I also almost always get not-the-best

Good beer and a very very good music selection are the main draws for us to Charlie’s Kitchen. The waitstaff is charmingly unenthusiastic, but I guess that’s just part of the experience. The food is nothing to write home about…typical bar food…just beware that if you order a grilled cheese and other people order burgers, there’s a good chance that your sandwich will be fairly chilly when it gets to the table. My only real objection is that last time we were there, they were playing a discovery channel TV show at the bar that was pretty much just animals mauling and eating each other. The guy friends I was with thought it was entertaining, but watching entrails being strewn about didn’t help my appetite at all.
