Where is the Best College Bar in Boston, Massachusetts?
I’ve been going to Tommy D’s for almost two years now and its one of my favorite bars in the Square. Dress up or dress down, you can always feel at home there. I love that there is something at TD’s for whatever mood I’m in–I can go when I want to dance and drink and go to the top floor, or if I want a beer and some apps and good conversation with friends, there’s space on the main floor or the basement lounge where i can actually hear the people at the table I’m at. The bartenders on the top floor get special props for creative mixing (I never know what I want, and they will always make something special) and always being friendly, especially when the bar is a few people deep. I celebrated my birthday here as well and with great space and good prices, it was the best place to bring a large group of friends. There are lots of great bars in the Square but Tommy Doyle’s is the best of all worlds, balancing club and pub, food and drink, and being a place meeting new people or banki
This is to address all the people complaining about the bouncers.No. I do not work for The White Horse, but can understand where they are coming from, having been a bouncer myself.1. The bouncers have a job to do. It is not to be nice to you.It is to keep the owner from being in court, because of underage drinking, or safety reasons inside.2. Most bouncers will be quite friendly if you actually talk to them and even possibly befriend them.3. Know this ? the owner(s) does not care what the bouncers say to you. Calling up and complaining will do nothing. 4. If you get irate and rude with the person at the door, you will not come in. Nobody cares if you?re a lawyer. Go ahead and take them to court. The bouncer won?t pay any of the money. This also applies to ?Do you know who I am??. Think of all the sh*t they take all night, plus being punched in the face routinely. 5. ID?s ? The doorguy doesn?t know you. He?s paid to hold you up and be 100% sure. If you don?t like it, go som
I have been there for brunch many times and for dinner once or twice. The food is pretty good for pub grub. Phantom Gourmet raved about their pizzas. They were good, but not what I expected after having been listed as a Phantom Great Ate for Pizza. For brunch, I suggest the stuffed French Toast (very rich and very decadent), “The Usual” or the omelettes. Off the regular menu, the mac and cheese was a good choice! The servers are friendly but even on a slow day, they seem to disappear someplace. But once you “found” them, they were very pleasant. On cool days, bring a sweater or sweatshirt, especially if you plan to sit near the front windows. They are not insulated and quite drafty. I have seen many people (besides myself) sitting there in the winter time with their sweater and a jacket on top of it while eating.
8 of us went to Tommy Doyle’s in Harvard Square for dinner and had such a great time. The waiters and the bartenders were so nice to us. They have a very nice variety of food and there is something for everyone. All of us enjoyed our meals and everyone had something different. We had no complaints!Next time I am in Cambridge again I plan to go back as I loved the people there. The prices are so reasonable for such a nice meal. We also had a few in our party from out of town and they really enjoyed themselves!
