Where is the Best Coffee in Nashville, Tennessee?

Portland Brew is beyond wonderful. It is simply the best coffee I’ve had anywhere, and I’ve been all over the world. Owner Brandon and top bean dude Rob roast their own beans there every day or two. An unmatched deep, rich, oily roast. Their espresso drinks are made with artistry and are beyond delicious. They also sell the beans they roast there…we get a constant supply because the withdrawal pangs are intolerable! And, oh yeah, the folks there are GREAT!They recently moved to 12th Avenue across from Sevier Park and Becker’s Bakery.Pros + everything!, coffee, peopleCons – are you kidding?!?

I am a local Nashvillin and live near Fido. I have given this coffee house so many chances but they consistently fail in one area – service. This is one of the main, if not the mother ship, coffee house for The Village and Vanderbilt. I really love the coffee and food here which is why I want Fido to correct its biggest flaw, the service. Parking is just not going to happen for you behind the storefront, so don’t try. (And please stop trying to pull out of the parking lot onto Hillsboro Pike and make a left towards Belmont – you will screw up traffic for those of us that drive through The Village several times a day) Park behind the Belcourt and you will be fine to walk the short distance. Once you get inside, the line can get a little long but they do move. The biggest problem comes when you do order; it takes them on average 20 – 30 min to get anything to you. I have ordered two cups of coffee before and it took 25 Min!! I have ordered two breakfast items with some coffee and it took

Caffeine is a welcoming and delightfully ambient cafe offering free wireless (and direct ethernet) access. The personable baristas make a point of remembering your name, and are quite knowledgeable about the beverages and refreshingly eclectic menu (as well as many other subjects ;-). The beer selection is suitably diverse and makes for a welcome difference in beverage. The warm tones and mid-eastern decor create a lovely comfortable atmosphere – try sitting at the low table with reclining pillows for a change. Live music and interactive art exhibits are what you can expect most weekend nights, particularly Fridays. Combine the comfy ambience, free internet access, and tasty cuisine, blend with coffee, and you have a lovely place to be whiling away your mornings, afternoons and evenings.Pros + eclectic menu, free wireless access, jayCons – crowded parking, supports my addiction, jay

This has always been one of my favorite places, but new owners recently took over and the vibe as well as the food, etc. seems to be changing– and not necessarily for the better. Rather than doing a slow transition to find out what is popular and why, the owners have immediately started making changes to items on the menu and to things (such as muffins, etc.) that they get from other vendors, without getting to know the existing customers and what they like. They have turned off the wifi during certain times, and the drive thru is now only for phoned-in orders for much of the day. There are reasons this cafe has become so popular, but if much of that is to be changed, then why still call it “Sam & Zoe’s”? I’ve heard that the new owners are from Star Bagel, so it would seem to follow to change the name if it’s going to be modeled after that business. They’ll probably develop a new customer base, BUTfor those of us long time fans, a big loss…RIP, Sam & Zoe’s.
