Where is the Best Chinese Food in Austin, Texas?
Twin Lion has decent, reasonably priced lunch specials, a somewhat larger selection of lunch specials to choose from when compared to other, similar chinese resturants in Austin, portion size may leave a little bit to be desired for some diners, but the food overall is reasonably well prepared and fairly tasty, nothing out of the ordinary, fairly standard fare, and certainly not on a par with Suzi’s or PF Changs, but very consistant food and service on all of my visits and a good value dollar-wise regardless.Pros + Inexpensive, Consistant
Sure it’s a restaurant next to a hotel but hey, it’s like finding a diamond in the rough! Most good places are like that. The selection is good and the food tastes great. The “Bo Luc Lac” was great and my wife had the Pho which she said was great as well. The food was fast and the wait staff are nice. In general, it’s a nice cozy little place. If you like Austin and its “laid-back” attitude and love Vietnamese and Chinese food then Saigon Kitchen is for you.Pros + Huge Selection of food, friendly wait staff, good foodCons – near the highway with lots of constructions.
First, it’s obviously very Americanized, which was what we expected going in. The vodka martini was very well made, and I enjoyed a plum wine they had; the Chendu (spelling?) spiced lamb was very tasty as were the spring rolls, and as someone mentioned before, the banana spring rolls were also very good. We went late at night so the service wasn’t rushed, I’m betting there’s a long wait and you might feel rushed if you went at a popular time. Really, it’s expensive compared to most Asian restaurants I think but compared to many other upscale restaurants I thought it was well worth the money. The odd thing was having a football game on the TV screen on the wall as you are eating your food; again reminding you that you are not in Beijing if you didn’t already know. The most annoying thing I suppose was paying a valet service $7 to park your car as I didn’t seem to find adequate parking nearby. I’m pretty sure we’ll be back as this was an enjoyable evening.Pros + food and service
We have lived all over, and one of the hardest parts of moving is each time having to go through alot of bad Chinese restaurants to find a fave. Luckily, we fairly quickly found Hunan Lion close by. Though it was a shock to hubby at first to find his fave sweet n sour pork was not covered in batter…his surprise became delight, it was wonderful. I have deeply enjoyed the combo fried rice, lo mein and cashew chicken. We both adore the tiny little eggrolls. One other great thing: if it’s not on their menu, they advertise that you should ask for it…they very well might specially make it for you!Pros + Food, location
