Where is the Best Chinese Food in Austin, Texas?

This is not the best Asian food in Austin. I would best describe this place as dirty, outdated, and cheap looking. The decoration has no authenticy and looks like it comes straight from a flea market. Maybe they should try dusting their statues and fake plants so that when customers first walk in they are not taken back by the obvious filth.I looked around at the restaurant and knew better not to order a whole meal of my own. The dirty carpet and tables told me the story of possible illness, and I cannot afford to get sick off of cheap restaurants who cut corners in the kitchen food and sanitation wise. I orderd a soda only and watched my friends eat. The smell of the food got to my hungry stomach, and I stole a piece of chicken off someone’s plate. I hate to admit it but it actually tasted good. I was just not about to think about the microscopic creatures that could attack my intestines if I ate the food in large quantities. Even though whatever my friend had ordered

Because we had a coupon, we went to this restaurant without really knowing anything beforehand. I ordered a mixed seafood dish and my friend Skatarina ordered twice cooked pork. I thought my dish was too bland, even after adding soy sauce. However, the twice cooked port was excellent and the most unusual version of that dish I have ever tried. The eggrolls are also very good. They must have a loyal following since we met a couple who said they had been going there for twenty years as we were leaving.Pros + parking, friendlyCons – complicated coupon, tables too close

Take out. Dine in. Either way. The people there are friendly and the food is always great. I have lived on the East Coast, West Coast, Chicago, and now here in Austin. This place is top notch. And the prices are reasonable. And the dishes are consistant. One thing I learned after moving here from San Francisco in the 90’s is that Texans prefer quantity over quality. “All you can eat for $5.95” goes big here. Not in CA. There it is quality over quantity. And Chinatown Westlake has the perfect balance. Kid friendly, too. Want bad Chinese food? Go to Lexington, MA or Seaside, OR. Pros + Food is greatCons – At 50 I can’t eat it every night.

If you’re expecting spicy Szechuan-style Chinese, this isn’t the place for you. The food is quite good (fresh, no MSG), however, but pass on the hot-and-sour soup (way too much black pepper and lacking the richness of a good stock base). The prices for most dishes are reasonable, and once you order, your dishes are brought out quickly. My two complaints are the lack of vegetarian dishes and seeming inflexibility of the waitstaff to make dishes vegetarian. Even after we explained that one person in our party was vegetarian, the waitstaff neither suggested many alternatives nor offered to make anything meatless. With the variety of sauces, vegetables, and tofu dishes in Chinese (even Cantonese) cooking, this shouldn’t have been a difficult request to fulfill. The chicken and eggplant with garlic sauce and the black mushrooms with mustard greens (although I think we were served baby bok choi) were outstanding.Pros + fast service, not over-priced

My boyfriend and I went to join his family for a nice meal. Once we drove up we were questioning if we would be able to actually park and get it; we were glad we did. After waiting for a little bit (we did have a party of 8) we were seated with a pleasant and competent server. They made sure all our needs were attended to. We did the food family style of course. I feel in love with their chicken lettuce wraps. Next time I want to try to vegetarian once. The rest of the table raved about the prawns which I was not bold enough to try. Since there were two birthdays at the table we did get dessert. The cheesecake & the chocolate dome were amazing. You can easily go there on a date or as a family. There is a bar with an extensive menu. The only thing that I wonder about was the extensiveness of their food menu; sometimes you have to question places that try to cook too many dishes, but it seems they nailed every one… at leaset the ones we ordered.Pros + Taste. Quality. Visual appeal.
